On June 17, Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport (HKQT) was officially inaugurated.
The project to build Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport was started on December 29, 2019, invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year (1 million international passengers and 4 million domestic passengers), with a total investment of nearly 2,300 billion VND. Passenger Terminal T2 was completed and put into operation from April 28, 2023.
Passenger Terminal T2 is designed with functional space with 2 passenger circulation levels. Domestic and international arrival areas are located on the 1st floor and departure areas are located on the 2nd floor.
Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang and delegates cut the ribbon to inaugurate the project.
The design concept of the station is based on a thorough study of the local geographical and cultural context, which is: Ngu Mountain Complex and the mountains surrounding the city, the majestic nature of the Huong River and the complex of historical and cultural architecture of Hue city.
In addition, inspired by the diversity of the Hue imperial dynasty culture and the motifs symbolizing the culture in Hue. These motifs are developed in different miniatures of the Station and are expressed as a theme to enhance the value of the project.
The exterior architecture of the building is inspired by the architecture of the Hue Palace with the characteristic of overlapping and extending roof layers. The image of those roof layers is stylized into the roof form of a modern terminal building but does not imitate the ancient architecture. The design of Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport expresses the aspiration to rise up and move towards the future.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation said that before the inauguration ceremony, from April 28, Passenger Terminal T2 was put into operation, which is of great significance for the upgrading of Phu Bai International Airport, worthy of the position and role of the airport infrastructure system in particular, and the aviation industry in general.
In particular, Phu Bai International Airport plays the role of one of the important traffic gateways, has a leading position in promoting the development of the tourism industry in particular, the socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in general of the province...
"Upgrading Phu Bai International Airport is just the beginning. ACV's upcoming task is to work with the aviation industry and Thua Thien Hue province to promote market development and expand flight routes, especially international routes," Mr. Thanh emphasized.
The project was inspired by the image of Ngu Mountain and built according to Hue royal architecture with overlapping roof layers.
In particular, according to ACV leaders, passenger terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport is the first terminal of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) to apply digital transformation, upgrade digital infrastructure, and digital platform to standardize business processes.
The ACV Chairman emphasized that with the new, modern T2 passenger terminal, Phu Bai International Airport will become a new aviation center connecting with provinces and cities across the country and international airports, in the region and the world, competing strongly with other aviation centers in the region.
In particular, the project will contribute to meeting the province's development potential, meeting the travel needs of local people, while attracting tourists and investors; creating new momentum to promote economic growth, helping Thua Thien - Hue province take off, soon achieving the goal of becoming a centrally-run city by 2025 .
