According to Android Authority , Samsung's new service aims to simplify the process of finding a data backup service that has become quite difficult these days. Called Temporary Cloud Backup, Samsung's service is not an alternative to Google Drive.
Temporary Cloud Backup allows unlimited temporary data backup for 30 days
Instead, it works like Apple's temporary iCloud storage feature, giving users access to unlimited storage for a short period of time. In Samsung's case, that period is 30 days from the date of the first backup. Files under 100GB will be accepted.
These limitations are enough to leave users looking for alternative storage options, restoring data to a new device, or needing to get their phone repaired. Speaking of the option to restore data to a new device, this fits in with Samsung's Maintenance Mode feature, which is designed to keep users' personal files away from prying technicians when performing maintenance tasks. Notably, the feature supports a wide range of file types, including data from third-party apps.
However, there are a few issues with Temporary Cloud Backup that users should be aware of. First, the solution is only available on devices running One UI 6, with the exception of some older Samsung flagships. The feature will be rolled out to Galaxy S and Z series models for users in South Korea before expanding globally.
