Quynh Phu: Maintain and improve the quality of OCOP products

In 2020, Quynh Phu implemented the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program. After more than 4 years, the whole district has 22 products recognized as OCOP products. Determined to bring the products further, the district directed localities to make efforts to maintain the brand and improve product quality.

Focus on improving product quality

Quynh Coi rice paper, Du Dai village, Dong Hai commune (Quynh Phu) is one of the first products of Quynh Phu district to be recognized as a 4-star OCOP product in 2020. This is a traditional product of a craft village with decades of age, so improving product quality is always a focus of households.

Mr. Hoang Pho Nam, owner of Quynh Coi rice paper production facility, shared: Rice paper is a product used regularly in family meals, the demand is high, so from the stage of selecting raw materials, we have very strict requirements. Rice to make rice paper must be taken from a reputable address, free of impurities, not moldy; the production process must be safe, clean, ensuring food safety. In particular, when the product is recognized as a 4-star OCOP product with a barcode, traceability code, it will be an opportunity for the facility to provide the market with more quality products. Currently, on average, the facility provides about 3 tons of rice paper to the market each day, creating stable jobs for dozens of workers.

With Lung Hong wine production facility, Quynh Giao commune (Quynh Phu) owned by Mr. Nguyen Duc Lung, in 2023 this facility had 2 products recognized as 3-star OCOP products, which are yellow sticky rice wine and leaf-fermented sticky rice wine. Currently, the products are gradually affirming their reputation with customers.

Mr. Lung confided: Wine is a special consumption product, directly related to human health, so to get a satisfactory drop of wine, it must go through many stages and strict control processes: rice must have a supplier according to clean rice standards, yeast must only be taken from one production location, when cooking, only one type of rice and one type of branded yeast must be used so as not to affect the reputation of the establishment. Currently, my family sells over 4,000 liters of wine per month to serve the market in and outside the province. Since its establishment, the products have been sold to the market and have been highly appreciated by consumers for their quality, initially creating prestige with customers.

To bring OCOP products far and wide

Quynh Phu district currently has 22 products recognized as OCOP products, of which 4 products have achieved 4-star OCOP and 18 products have achieved 3-star OCOP. According to regulations, after 3 years of recognizing products that meet OCOP standards, the competent authorities will re-evaluate the criteria. If any product does not meet the standards, it will be downgraded to a lower star level or have its star certificate revoked. It can be seen that although the One Commune One Product program brings many economic benefits to people in rural areas, if the quality is not maintained, the risk of OCOP products having their certification revoked is very high. Therefore, for OCOP products to develop sustainably requires the efforts of the subjects, local authorities, cooperatives, and enterprises to be flexible, have specific solutions and long-term OCOP product development strategies.

According to Mr. Hoang Pho Nam, owner of Quynh Coi rice paper establishment: Currently, products are always competitive, aiming at the best interests of consumers. If we want our products to reach far and be known by many people, quality must be the top priority. In recent years, our establishment has invested 1.8 billion VND to buy large capacity coating machines, boilers, slicers, and build a closed factory; now the products have barcodes and traceability codes, so they are very popular with everyone.

With Mr. Nguyen Duc Lung's wine production facility, he has focused on promoting products in recent times. Mr. Lung said: The family's wine production facility has only been in operation for more than 2 years, so expanding the market is very important. In addition to improving product quality, we also pay attention to packaging design and investing in promoting and introducing products on e-commerce platforms, displaying at fairs, product introduction points in and outside the province... From there, we hope that the family's products will increasingly develop and stand firm in the market.

Mr. Do Tien Cong, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Phu district, said: In order to maintain and develop products, in the past time, Quynh Phu district and localities have always paid attention to supporting and accompanying the subjects; at the same time, building a plan to orient the sustainable development of OCOP products, in which strengthening the role and supervision of local authorities in developing and evaluating OCOP products, with timely support policies. In the coming time, the district as well as local authorities will work closely with the subjects to discuss and build development plans for each product, identify the criteria that can still be improved, upgraded and implement measures, guide the subjects to complete the dossier. In addition, the district also requested relevant departments, branches and units to support each subject to improve each criterion, ensure upgrading the products, and make efforts to maintain and improve the quality of OCOP products.
