On March 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that his country had sent an official response through Oman to a letter previously sent by US President Donald Trump to Iran's leadership seeking opportunities for nuclear negotiations with Tehran.

IRNA news agency quoted Foreign Minister Araghchi as saying that Tehran's response to the issue was sent on March 26, explaining "thoroughly" Iran's position on the current situation.

In addition, Mr. Araghchi also emphasized that Iran is determined not to negotiate directly with the US, especially when the Trump administration is implementing a "maximum pressure" campaign and posing military threats against Tehran.

However, Iran noted that it has not closed all doors to resolve disagreements with the US and is ready to negotiate indirectly with Washington as before.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted Kamal Kharrazi, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, as saying: "The Islamic Republic does not close all doors. We are ready to negotiate indirectly with the United States to assess our partners, state our own conditions and make appropriate decisions."

In an interview with Fox Business Network in early March, President Trump revealed that he had sent a letter to Iran's leaders, offering to negotiate a new nuclear deal and warning of military action if Tehran refused to negotiate. The letter was delivered to Iran via the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

However, Iran refused to negotiate directly with the US on the grounds that the content of the letter was threatening and dialogue at this time would only serve Washington's purpose of putting maximum pressure on Tran.

The 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers (including the UK, France, the US, China, Russia and Germany) - officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) - was broken in 2018 during President Trump's first term, when he withdrew the US from the deal.

Washington also reimposed sanctions that have crippled Iran's economy. In response, Tehran has gradually abandoned its nuclear commitments under the deal.
