Quang Nam develops medicinal herbs under forest canopy, helping people escape poverty

Currently, Quang Nam has more than 2,750 hectares of medicinal plants, mainly Ngoc Linh ginseng, Morinda officinalis, Codonopsis pilosula, cinnamon, purple cardamom, etc. Thanks to favorable soil and climate conditions, these plants grow well and have high economic value.

Specifically: the price of Ngoc Linh ginseng currently ranges from 100 - 220 million VND/kg, while purple Morinda officinalis is from 500,000 - 600,000 VND/kg, helping many households significantly improve their income.

In order to promote the development of medicinal plants, Quang Nam has invested in two nurseries in Tay Giang and Nam Tra My, and issued support policies on seeds, techniques, and loans. To date, about 10 enterprises and cooperatives have linked up with more than 1,000 households, implementing a chain of production - processing - consumption of products. Thanks to that, the average income from medicinal plants in some communes has reached 40 million VND/person/year, of which the income from medicinal plants alone accounts for about 50% of the total income.

With the development orientation until 2030, Quang Nam continues to expand the area of ​​medicinal plant cultivation according to the planning, attracting businesses to invest in deep processing, increasing the value of products. This is not only a solution for sustainable economic development but also contributes significantly to forest protection and creating stable livelihoods for people in mountainous areas.
