"Vietnamese Painting on Traditional Materials" is the name of a painting exhibition that was just opened on the evening of July 12 at the Vietnam Cultural Center in Paris.

This is one of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 10 years of France-Vietnam strategic partnership, co-organized by the Vietnam Cultural Center, the Aurore Lumière Association and the Club of Vietnamese Sea and Island Lovers in France.

With the desire to introduce to the public vivid and colorful perspectives of daily life and religious beliefs in France and Vietnam, authors Nguyen Van Ho, Tran Dinh Binh, Do Van Ly, Nguyen Duy Dat, Nguyen Hoang Huy and Pham Quang Trung, brought to the exhibition nearly 50 works made on traditional materials such as Do paper, silk, wood and especially lacquer.

They are all alumni of Fine Arts Universities in France and Vietnam.

Young artist Nguyen Van Ho said he decided to choose a collection of lacquer paintings depicting Buddha's portraits to bring to the exhibition with the aim of introducing to the public French lacquer, a long-standing traditional material in Vietnam, as well as the image of Buddhism in the minds of Vietnamese people, who always want people to strive for the best things in life.

Painter Nguyen Hoang Huy considers the exhibition a place for him to meet and share his love of painting with the Vietnamese community and French friends, especially with colleagues from Vietnam.

He said he likes to paint abstract paintings because they express his personality. Although this is a contemporary painting school, the author has successfully expressed it on the traditional Do paper of his homeland.

Each work has its own nuances, each author has its own style, and all received positive reviews from visitors to the exhibition. (Photo: Nguyen Thu Ha/Vietnam+)

While Mr. Jean-Pierre Archambault is particularly interested in the colors of the paintings, Ms. Olga Brice is impressed by the traditional materials. But both share a pleasant and satisfying feeling when looking at the works of talented young artists.

Ms. Loan de Fontbrune, a French art critic of Vietnamese origin, commented: "The young artists are all very talented. Each one paints on a different material, such as lacquer, do paper, or silk... Even artist Nguyen Duy Dat has painted on many materials. This makes me very impressed;.

Mr. Nghiem Xuan Dong, Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Center in France, said that since resuming operations after the renovation of the headquarters was completed, the center has organized a series of activities in the fields of performances, music, painting and photography exhibitions, seminars, etc.

The purpose of this exhibition is to create a playground and a gathering place for the community and associations to attract, promote and disseminate Vietnamese culture in France.
