What is the competitive advantage of Vietnamese textiles in the US? Textile exports in 2024 are expected to grow by 8-10% |
Sharing about this, Mr. Cao Huu Hieu - General Director of Vietnam Textile and Garment Group said that one of the bright spots in 2023 and the first 6 months of 2024 of the group is to stabilize the workforce with more than 63,000 level 1 workers, if considering level 2 workers, it is more than 155,000 workers. The total number of union members and workers benefiting from life care programs and welfare programs is over 62,000 people, with a value of more than 6.5 billion VND.
In particular, during Workers' Month 2024, trade unions at all levels gave gifts, supported workers to borrow money to solve difficulties, borrow capital to do family business, supported the construction and repair of 2 union shelters, supported the provision of basic facilities, and organized union meals.
The Group also cooperates with specialized agencies to train occupational safety and hygiene for the network of safety and hygiene workers, conduct fire prevention and fighting drills; train, foster, improve skills, take exams to promote ranks, raise salaries, have health check-ups, etc. to ensure the rights of workers. Social activities for the community continue to be promoted with a total donation of nearly 3.5 billion VND and 1,200 units of blood.
“ In 2023, in the context of a lack of orders, there were businesses with thousands of workers who had to accept orders for only a few thousand pieces to have jobs and income for their workers. Therefore, in 2024, when orders picked up again, these businesses were able to immediately return to production because they had enough workers, ” said Mr. Hieu.
"Sweet fruit" from labor preservation efforts of textile enterprises |
Labor is always considered a valuable asset of textile and garment enterprises. In difficult circumstances, many enterprises have tried every way, even taking losses when accepting orders to provide jobs for workers.
Mr. Pham Tuan Anh - General Director of Tien Hung Joint Stock Company, also acknowledged that always determining "taking people as the center", the enterprise not only ensures the increasing income of employees but also builds a green, friendly, modern working environment for employees is also one of the top priorities.
Not only covering the entire factory campus with flowers and trees, Tien Hung is also one of the first units to install a central air conditioning system for the entire workshop, with more than 8,000 square meters/floor.
Tien Hung also focuses on organizing models to care for workers, regularly organizing meetings at each level of the organization to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of workers with the view that any needs of workers will be resolved immediately.
Mr. Tuan Anh also informed that this year, the company will focus on investing in technology, rearranging the factory system to create the most favorable conditions for employees to work. The company has applied digitalization in raw material warehouses, product quality management and in the coming time will continue to apply digital transformation in other fields.
Tien Hung currently has enough orders until the end of the year, and expects revenue in 2024 to increase by 5-7%, accordingly, the average income of workers will also increase by at least 5-7% compared to 2023.
In collaboration with businesses, the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union has also organized many activities to encourage and motivate workers to work enthusiastically. Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tam - President of the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union said that in the first 6 months of 2024, the trade union focused on providing professional training for union officials at all levels, improving the professional skills of production team leaders, equipment managers, etc. for businesses in all 3 regions of the North, Central and South.
At the same time, organize training on occupational safety and hygiene for the cleaning team, fire prevention and fighting to minimize risks in production. Last Workers' Month, the union supported the construction of union shelters, gave gifts to workers in difficult circumstances, equipped union facilities at production sites, and built grassroots cultural life. " These activities help workers' spirits to be lifted and work more effectively ," said Ms. Tam.
It can be seen that the efforts of textile and garment enterprises to preserve their workforce over the past years, especially in the extremely difficult year of 2023, have been rewarded. The market has gradually recovered, orders have increased, and enterprises have immediately had highly skilled workers to boost production and take advantage of opportunities.
It is forecasted that in the last 6 months of the year, the textile and garment industry will face many challenges as the market remains unstable, input costs increase, output prices remain low, etc., which will directly impact production and business performance. Domestic textile and garment enterprises are determined to regularly monitor, update, and forecast market information, develop possible scenarios, and have appropriate plans.
At the same time, proactively adapt to ESG (environment, society, corporate governance) and circular economy standards. As for the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group, in addition to complying with technical requirements on the environment, it continues to implement welfare policies for employees; modernize the governance model, ensure the harmony of interests of shareholders, society and employees, and transparent information on supply chain traceability. Gradually build and deploy training programs and human resource planning to serve the transition to a green economy and circular economy.
