Diversified forms of propaganda
The recent theatricalization of propaganda on domestic violence prevention organized by the Tay Giang District Women's Union in coordination with the District Department of Culture, Science and Information has created a positive effect.
Through skits based on real stories, many aspects of domestic violence are thoroughly examined. For example, the skit “My Family Story” staged by Ga Ri commune talks about having only one child, the husband getting into alcoholism, beating and cursing his wife and children. These are real situations that are easy to encounter in rural areas, especially remote areas and ethnic minority areas.
The sketch was highly appreciated by the organizers for both its content and form of expression, helping viewers perceive the consequences of domestic violence, thereby promptly taking measures to propagate prevention and deterrence.

Ms. Bling Thi Hon - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ga Ri commune said that Ga Ri is a mountainous border commune with complex terrain, the life of the Co Tu people here is still difficult, and their level of knowledge and awareness of the law is still limited.
Therefore, in recent times, women’s union officials and commune cultural officers have regularly coordinated with border guards to go to villages and residential areas to promote gender equality and prevent domestic violence. However, in reality, there are still many cases of women and children being abused, having early marriages, and having incestuous marriages.
“Recently, there were two cases of incestuous marriage in the commune. The case was promptly handled and deterred, and at the same time, people were informed and reminded not to let similar cases happen,” said Ms. Hon.
According to Ms. Briu Thi Nem - President of the Women's Union of Tay Giang district, gender-based violence and domestic violence have never been an old story for women, especially ethnic minority women. It is the resignation of women in the highlands that causes domestic violence to recur and is not easy to eliminate.
“From this reality, the District Women's Union always seeks to innovate the form and content of propaganda on gender equality, marriage and domestic violence in a flexible, vivid and visual way in both the Co Tu and popular languages so that people can easily listen, understand and absorb.
In addition, the association also coordinates with relevant sectors to go to residential areas and villages to promote propaganda about gender equality, marriage and family, and violence prevention," said Ms. Nem.
Raising awareness of gender equality
Tay Giang has 8/10 border communes bordering Laos. The whole district has about 16 ethnic minorities, of which the Co Tu people account for more than 90%. In recent years, the material and spiritual life of the people has been gradually improved.

However, people's awareness of the law, including the Law on Marriage and Family and gender equality, is still limited. The form of dramatization in propaganda work is easy to reach people's hearts, brings positive effects, and receives the response of the people.
To improve the effectiveness of this propaganda method, the District Women's Union has continuously rebroadcasted the skits on social networking sites such as Zalo, Facebook, YouTube or shown them during propaganda sessions.
Along with the dramatization, the improvement of domestic violence prevention skills for women members is emphasized. Localities have implemented training courses on detecting and supporting domestic violence prevention skills to help women members grasp solutions to implement gender equality, prevent domestic violence and prevent the risk of child abuse.
In addition, the District Women's Union also coordinated with local secondary schools to organize a discussion on "What I want to say" for schools, parents, and students to discuss and ask questions related to the rights and obligations of children in ethnic minority areas.
Mr. Arat Blui - Vice Chairman of Tay Giang District People's Committee said that recently, the District Women's Union has conducted many communication activities on gender equality and prevention of domestic violence. Thanks to that, the number of cases of child marriage, incestuous marriage and domestic violence has decreased.
“To reduce domestic violence, early marriage and incestuous marriage, in addition to the efforts of the District Women's Union, it is necessary to have the participation of the entire political and social system. It cannot be implemented by just one sector or organization alone. There must be unified implementation from the district to the grassroots and the people, then it will be most effective,” said Mr. Blúi.
