The Deputy Prime Minister assessed that Energy China Group is one of the leading energy enterprises in China and the world; and has implemented a number of projects in Vietnam as a general contractor or project investor.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the green energy transition has many challenges and difficulties. China has grasped the trend and developed rapidly in converting fossil energy to green energy. Meanwhile, Vietnam has great potential for renewable energy (solar power, wind power). Many technological problems need to be solved when increasing the proportion of renewable energy such as: Ensuring the safety and stability of the national power grid; producing green hydrogen from renewable energy to replace fossil fuels; power storage equipment, etc.

The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that Energy China Group will share and apply new technologies and techniques in projects implemented in Vietnam, or have specific proposals on developing smart grids, pumped storage hydropower, and electricity storage to increase the proportion of renewable energy at reasonable prices.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Qiao Xubin said that Vietnam is a very potential market, and there are many investment and business opportunities for Energy China Group.

Reporting to the Deputy Prime Minister on some of the group's key performance results in recent times, Mr. Qiao Xubin said that Energy China Group is piloting a project to combine renewable energy with pumped storage hydropower plants, producing hydrogen from renewable energy.

Leaders of Energy China Group also shared and expressed interest in projects to develop smart grids; reduce grid losses; build wind power plants, pumped storage hydropower plants, store electricity; convert technology for coal and gas power plants towards carbon neutrality...

On the same afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam and leaders of Corio Generation Company; listened to a report on the implementation of the pilot offshore wind power project with the Power Generation Corporation 3 (Genco3) of Vietnam Electricity Group.

Appreciating the proactiveness and positivity of Corio Generation and Genco 3, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that, along with the project implementation process, relevant parties need to "work while perfecting" mechanisms and policies on direct electricity purchase and sale, determining electricity prices, solutions for building transmission grids, determining capacity to ensure grid stability and balance, and capital mobilization plans, etc.

"This can be considered a key project, contributing to promoting and expanding the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia, and helping Vietnam realize the plan to implement the Just Energy Transition Agreement (JETP)," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Stating that Vietnam wants to develop the wind power industry, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that, along with investment, Corio Generation Company should focus on supporting and transferring technology; and diversifying partners in Vietnam.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski believes that in 2024, the bilateral relationship between Australia and Vietnam will be raised to a new level.

Ambassador Goledzinowski mentioned that another pillar of cooperation in the bilateral relationship is the green energy transition - an area that has been strengthened between Australia and Vietnam in recent times. A number of Australian businesses are very interested in building offshore wind farms, as Vietnam has great potential to develop this type of power.

The leaders of Corio Generation Company said that the implementation of offshore wind power projects does not stop at building technical infrastructure but also training human resources for operation, research, technology transfer; at the same time, proposing mechanisms and policies to facilitate investors in the field of renewable energy.

Corio Generation (2012) is a subsidiary of Macquarie Group, operating mainly in the field of offshore wind power development. Currently, the Company is managing one of the largest offshore wind power portfolios in the world with more than 30 GW in operation in several countries such as the UK, Norway, Sweden, etc.

Notably, Corio Generation has participated in the research and development of a number of renewable energy projects in Vietnam since 2019. At the same time, as a member of the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero Emissions (GFANZ), Corio Generation is currently working with a number of partners to mobilize resources for energy transition projects in Vietnam.
