The producer released a first-look (a brief video about the movie) on the evening of April 29, opening with the scene of enemy troops sweeping the South. After the sound of bombs exploding, the scene is an underground base of the National Liberation Front soldiers of South Vietnam.

The video has a character saying: "The US shouted 'Cu Chi is still here, Saigon is gone'". The trailer ends with a scene of the bunker shaking from the sound of bombs, seemingly collapsing.

The project celebrates the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, a war film made from socialized budget. In addition to Thai Hoa, the cast includes Quang Tuan, Ho Thu Anh, Cao Minh, Diem Hang Lamoon, Hoang Minh Triet, Khanh Ly.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen said it took 10 years to prepare the project, focusing on recreating the patriotism of the people of the South. The film took more than two months to film, including many scenes in Cu Chi. "It is hard to imagine that resilient soldiers and militia used rudimentary tools to build a dense and complex defense system underground," said Bui Thac Chuyen.

The work also marks the return of Thai Hoa after a year of great success. Last year, he won two titles: Best Actor in Film ( Con Nhót nhớt chồng ) and Television ( Mễ Rơm ) at the Kite Awards. He also won Best Actor at the 2023 Vietnam Film Festival. The actor said he wanted to take on a "heavy" role with a lot of experience while he was still in his prime.

"There is nothing more satisfying than completing a segment well, no matter how small. I hope the audience doesn't remember Thai Hoa, just remembering the role I played is enough to make them happy," he said.

Director - screenwriter Bui Thac Chuyen, 56 years old, was born in Hanoi. In 1995, he studied at the Faculty of Acting, Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema, becoming an artist of the Vietnam Drama Theater. In 1997, he studied directing, attracting attention with Cuoc xe dem - the first Vietnamese work to win an award in the Cinefondation Short Film category at the Cannes International Film Festival. In 2005, his film Living in Fear won many domestic and international awards. In 2022, Ashes of Glory - a film adapted from a story by Nguyen Ngoc Tu - won many domestic and international awards, including the Golden Lotus at the 2023 Vietnam Film Festival.
