'Devil's Land' crew members share experiences with Vietnamese producers

Producers Kim Youngmin and Leonard Haddad are expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and international perspectives in film production, helping Vietnamese filmmakers expand their connections and increase their filmmaking opportunities.

Within the framework of the Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) 2025, two international filmmakers from Korea and France will share at the Genre Film Project - a short-term class to provide advice and support in developing young film projects.

They are Mr. Kim Youngmin (Korea) - member of the production company of the film "Exhuma" and Leonard Haddad (France) - member of the production company of the film "Resident Evil ".

With 25 years of experience in the film industry, Mr. Kim Youngmin has extensive experience in film distribution. He is currently promoting international cooperation projects with Indonesia, Singapore, France, the UK and Vietnam.

The producer has produced over 20 television series and feature films at studios such as Sidus FNH, Studio Dream Capture, MCMC, MAP and D-Mix Studio, notably “Exhuma” (2024) and “Secretly, Greatly” (2013).

“Exhuma” is a detective, spiritual genre, with an attractive, suspenseful story and convincing acting. The film received many domestic awards, has the 6th highest revenue in the history of Korean cinema with nearly 94 million USD worldwide, about 8.2 million USD from Vietnam (more than 212 billion VND).

“I look forward to sharing the journey of the film ‘Ghost Tomb Digger’ and meeting passionate Vietnamese filmmakers. I hope the program will become a meaningful space for creative exchange and inspiration across borders,” said Kim Youngmin.

Mr. Leonard Haddad also has extensive experience in production and distribution in France and many other countries. He currently works at Metropolitan and Davis Film - the two companies behind the films "True Romance" and "Silent Hill" ...

The most notable is the "Resident Evil" series, developed from the globally famous video game of the same name. However, the film version is equally attractive thanks to developing the strengths of the game, maintaining the attractive story and earning 1.2 billion USD for 7 films.

In addition to distribution and production, Leonard Haddad is also a film critic and editor, and was in charge of a Metropolitan branch specializing in breaking Asian films in France in the early 2000s.

Coming to this year's DANAFF workshop, he also hopes to impart a lot of experience and inspiration to potential film projects, continuing to promote the presence of Asian cinema in France.

“I am looking forward to participating in the workshop, as well as discovering new talents and projects from the young generation of Vietnamese filmmakers. I hope I can share some of my experience in distributing, promoting and promoting Asian genre films in France,” the producer said./.

The 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival 2025 is being held. The event takes place in the coastal city of Da Nang, providing a playground for filmmakers in the region to compete and win awards.

This year's film festival lasts from June 29 to July 5, featuring activities such as workshops on independent filmmaking, acting workshops, seminars on research and learning about Korean cinema, screenings of many Vietnamese revolutionary films to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification...
