This afternoon, November 26, information from the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve, Quang Tri province said that through camera trapping activities in the managed forest area, the unit discovered a rare animal species, a black bear.

Accordingly, the camera trap detected and recorded many wild animals, including a rare and endangered group IB black bear weighing about 150 kg. After recording, the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve organized synchronous measures to protect and conserve this rare animal as well as other wild animals.
Director of the Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve Management Board, Ha Van Hoan, said that previously, the unit coordinated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to place digital camera traps in the forest area of the unit to investigate the Saola species. Therefore, during this process, the camera traps recorded more rare wildlife species, listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book (IUCN) such as red-faced monkeys, pangolins, striped rabbits, white pheasants, red-shanked douc langurs, white-naped langurs, and many species of birds, weasels, civets, wild pigs, etc.
As for this newly discovered species of black bear, its scientific name is Ursus thibetanus or Ursus tibetanus, also known as the Tibetan Black Bear, Himalayan Black Bear or Asiatic Black Bear. This species is listed in the World Red Book, as a vulnerable species among endangered animals.
