For generations, the ethnic groups of Vietnam have worked hard, not afraid of difficulties, to clear mountains and create beautiful and fertile terraced fields stretching along the endless mountain slopes. The method of wet rice cultivation has created valuable experiences that people are still applying today, such as: using water for irrigation properly, or using mud to paint the fields to destroy nests of pests that harm rice... to ensure the growth of rice plants. The purpose of terraced fields is to prevent erosion, improve and protect the soil. Terraced fields limit the great impact of rainwater and help the soil retain nutrients.
Nowadays, terraced fields have become a characteristic and a source of pride for ethnic people living in the highlands. In Vietnam, terraced fields are popular in the Northwest, Central Highlands, midland areas in the North, Central... Many large-scale terraced fields with rich natural shapes create a majestic and magnificent beauty, becoming famous tourist destinations, such as Mu Cang Chai terraced fields (Yen Bai), Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Hoang Su Phi (Ha Giang)...
As the name suggests, with each season of the year, the terraced fields are shaped like colorful steps that look like giant sculptures following each other. The stamp set "Terraced Fields" is designed in a graphic style, depicting the terraced fields of the Northwest highlands with selected images, showing the process of cultivating and growing rice on terraced fields from tilling the soil, tilling, sowing, sprouting, ripening rice... thereby introducing the majestic beauty of Vietnam.
The stamp set "Terrace fields" has a size of 43 x 32 (mm), block size of 80 x 100 (mm) designed by artist Nguyen Du (Vietnam Post Corporation). Photo materials for the design of the stamp set were provided by photographer Pham Bang, reporter of Lao Cai newspaper.
