On May 9, Lao Cai Power Company (PC Lao Cai) organized a summer power supply drill in 2024.
During the drill, the total capacity of the Lao Cai power system was significantly reduced, from 312.3MW to 246.4MW (a decrease of 65.9MW). This was achieved thanks to the cooperation between Lao Cai Power Company and 65 customers who signed a commitment to implement the non-commercial load adjustment (DR) program to reduce capacity by 52.56MW.
In addition, PC Lao Cai has coordinated with 24 customers using Diesel generators to conduct a self-generation grid separation exercise to supply electricity to loads, reducing 4.7MW.
With careful preparation, PC Lao Cai has implemented a flexible and creative drill plan, not only helping to successfully reduce the load but also increasing the efficiency of electricity use. This is a remarkable result of the continuous efforts to ensure electricity supply in the summer of 2024, thereby contributing to ensuring energy security and stabilizing the grid in the context of high electricity demand.
According to the leader of PC Lao Cai, with the goal of not having a shortage of electricity in production and daily life by 2024 as directed by the Prime Minister, PC Lao Cai continues to commit to making continuous efforts to provide stable electricity, meeting the increasing needs of people and businesses, while contributing to the socio-economic development of Lao Cai province in particular and the whole country in general.
In weather conditions that may experience extreme heat in the summer (from May to August), increased electricity consumption may lead to a shortage of peak power supply during the hours of 12-15h and 21-24h every day, so practicing power supply plans to respond to all possible situations will help PC Lao Cai ensure electricity supply to customers.
