The project is still in its early stages, but there is already an internal beta that focuses on ChatGPT's image generation feature and has a social feed.

Also according to The Verge's source, it is not clear whether OpenAI plans to launch this social network as a standalone application or integrate it into the ChatGPT application.

With this new social network, OpenAI will compete with Elon Musk's X and Meta's social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. The new app will also give OpenAI access to real-time data to train its AI models, something both X and Meta already have.

According to The Verge, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman consulted outside opinions to comment on this social network.

At this point, it's unclear whether this project will be officially announced, but the existence of a prototype suggests that OpenAI is looking to expand its existing products.

The move could further escalate tensions between Sam Altman and billionaire Elon Musk, owner of X and one of the founders of OpenAI. Musk left the company in 2018 before OpenAI became a leader in the artificial intelligence race. In February, a group of investors led by Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion, but Altman immediately rejected it.
