(Dan Tri) - President Donald Trump admits that the policy of taxing trade partners can harm America itself, but that it is worth it to make America great again.

"This will be a golden age for America. Will it hurt? Yes, maybe (and maybe not). But we will make America great again and it will be worth the price," US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on February 2.
The White House owner commented further: "The United States has a huge trade deficit with Canada, Mexico and China, as well as a series of other countries, and is in debt of 36,000 billion USD. We will no longer be a foolish country."
This is the first time Mr Trump has acknowledged the consequences that Americans may face from his tariffs. He has signed orders to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China.
Accordingly, the US will impose a 25% tax on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tax on goods from China starting February 4 to address the national emergency of fentanyl and illegal immigrants entering the US.
In his comments yesterday, Mr. Trump also once again stated his opinion that Canada should accept becoming the 51st state of the US to enjoy lower taxes and better military protection.
However, Canada rejected this idea. Instead, the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau immediately announced a response, imposing tariffs on about $30 billion worth of US goods. Canada will continue to impose even stronger tariffs if the two sides cannot negotiate.
