According to the decision dated April 4 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Dang Ha Viet was appointed as Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Training and Environment. Previously, Mr. Dang Ha Viet was Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Ha Viet used to be the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center and Principal of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports. In 2022, he was appointed as the General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. In 2023, when the General Department of Sports and Physical Training was transformed into the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Mr. Dang Ha Viet was the Director.

During the time Mr. Dang Ha Viet headed the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Vietnamese sports maintained their achievements in the regional arena. Specifically, in two consecutive SEA Games (2022 and 2023), the Vietnamese sports delegation topped the SEA Games medal tally.

However, in the continental and world arenas, the Vietnamese delegation's performance was not good. At the 19th ASIAD (Hangzhou, China) in 2023, the Vietnamese sports delegation won 3 gold medals, ranking 21st overall (2 gold medals less and 5 places lower than the previous term).

In 2024, Vietnam had no athletes win medals at the Paris Olympics. This is the second consecutive Olympics in which Vietnamese sports have come up empty-handed.
