On October 14, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Nguyen Hai Son (a tourist from Da Nang) recounted the breathtaking moment he witnessed a female doctor narrowly saving his child.

Panic when hearing child cry for help

Mr. Son said that his family came from Kon Tum to Da Nang City for tourism and to visit relatives. On October 11, while driving his wife and children on the streets of Da Nang, Mr. Son's daughter, Nguyen Ngoc Khue (5 years old), unfortunately choked on candy.

Mr. Son said that at first he was quite calm, performing chest thrusts and back pats to deal with the foreign object choking as he had learned.

“However, after 5-6 attempts, the candy still wouldn’t come out. Hearing my child mumble “Dad, help me,” and that he couldn’t breathe, I started to lose my composure and panic.

My wife shouted to bring me here to see a doctor. My wife and I quickly took our child and ran to the Long Chau vaccination center nearby. Luckily, a young female doctor calmly gave first aid and helped my child overcome the danger," said Mr. Son.

Mr. Son said that he had a very active child at home, so he had already researched first aid for children choking on foreign objects. He even carefully bought a kit to suck foreign objects out of the child's airway. But unexpectedly, when he heard his child calling for his father and being in a critical condition, he could not keep calm.

Mr. Son said that after the female doctor treated their child, he and his wife thanked her but were in a hurry to leave because of urgent work so they could not share much. "My family is very grateful and will consider Dr. An as our child's second mother," Mr. Son shared.

“Everyone does the same as me”

The video sharing the breathtaking moment the female doctor saved the baby was recorded by a security camera and then shared on social media. Many people expressed joy at seeing the baby escape and admired the female doctor's calmness at that moment.

Ms. Vo Thi An (26 years old), a doctor working at FPT Long Chau Vaccination Center - 441 Ngo Quyen, Son Tra, Da Nang, is the female doctor who treated the child who choked on candy in the clip. She said that if any doctor encountered such a case, they would handle it the same way as her.

Doctor An said that while working that day, he suddenly saw the parents bring the baby in in a state of panic.

“Because the parents were panicking, I had to stay calm to calm them down and quickly treat the baby. At that time, the baby had difficulty breathing but was still crying, so I assessed the baby's condition and used the Heimlich maneuver to give first aid to the baby. Within about 1 minute of treatment, the candy was expelled from the baby's airway and the baby returned to normal,” Dr. An recounted.

Doctor An also recommends that everyone should be equipped with first aid skills for choking on foreign objects to help those around them in emergency situations.

The Heimlich maneuver is a method used for severe and life-threatening airway obstruction caused by foreign objects or food, and anyone can perform it. The most important thing is to stay calm.
