Right after Tet, many schools have planned to guide and advise students on registering for grade 10 admission.
Advice for both students and parents
Ms. Than Thi Tuyet Nhung, principal of Chu Van An Secondary School (District 1), said that the school is waiting for more official information about 10th grade enrollment from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to advise students. In April, the school will continue to open another 10th grade enrollment counseling session for parents.
Previously, at the end of January 2024, during the first semester parent meeting, Chu Van An Secondary School organized a talk and consultation session on grade 10 admissions for parents whose children were studying in grade 9 at the school. Here, parents heard the school talk about the new points in the grade 10 entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
In addition, the school also answers parents' questions about registering for grade 10, how to help children stabilize their psychology, how to accompany their children... in the grade 10 entrance exam.
"Through that talk and consultation, I saw that parents had many questions that needed to be answered.
Only a few parents whose children have already taken the 10th grade exam feel secure, while many parents are very worried. Therefore, the school has planned to organize another official meeting with parents in April to advise them further on 10th grade admission.
In fact, for 9th grade students, parents often accompany their children in choosing their wishes, so the school needs to advise both students and parents," said Ms. Nhung.
Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1) also organized many activities to consult on grade 10 admissions for both parents and students. Right at the parent meeting at the end of the first semester, this school also organized to answer questions about grade 10 admissions for parents.
In addition, homeroom teachers and subject teachers are responsible for advising students on grade 10 admissions, and psychology teachers will help students stabilize their psychology for the grade 10 entrance exam.
In addition, according to the plan, Nguyen Du Secondary School also plans to take 9th grade students to visit some high schools near the school area so that they can increase their understanding of high schools and make reasonable wishes.
In that spirit, Nguyen Gia Thieu Secondary School (Tan Binh District) has scheduled a 10th grade admissions consultation for 9th grade students.
"We plan to organize a 10th grade admissions consultation for students on Friday, February 23, if the Department of Education and Training announces more information about the 10th grade entrance exam that day. The school also plans to advise students about the schools they wish to apply to," said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dac, the school's principal.
According to Mr. Dac, this year's enrollment consulting work for 9th grade students was learned from last year's experience.
"Last year we visited some high schools, but this year based on the students' wishes to learn about the schools, we will invite the principal of that school to come and talk (in addition to the department's appointment) so that the students can have their questions answered directly," said Mr. Dac.

High school actively looking for students
Some high schools have made their own plans for recruiting 10th graders, proactively approaching parents and 9th graders. This year, Le Quy Don High School (District 3) will implement the program "A day as a high school student" for 9th graders to help them learn about the learning environment, subjects, learning space, and school culture.
"Grade 9 students will not only visit, but they will also receive advice and answers to questions about groups, subjects, clubs, and learning environments when they enter Le Quy Don High School.
The special thing is that if students like to study a class, experience a subject, experience a club activity, they will be able to participate in that class. It must be said that after two years of implementing the 2018 general education program at high school level, 9th grade students moving to 10th grade are still very confused, so they need to be consulted very carefully and clearly" - Ms. Bui Minh Tam, the school principal, said.
In the near future, Nguyen Huu Tho High School (District 4) will also provide 10th grade admissions consulting for 9th grade students and parents of secondary schools in districts 1, 4, and 7 with a consulting board consisting of school principals and career guidance teachers.
According to the school, the reason for choosing this consulting location is because this is the location with the highest number of students enrolling in the school in recent years. The school's consulting work focuses on helping students and parents understand the learning environment, teaching methods and activities as well as the subject combinations designed according to the new program.
Bui Thi Xuan High School plans to hold a 10th grade admissions consultation session on March 19 for students and parents across the city in need.
During this admissions consultation, students will watch a film about the school's activities, learn about the school's admission scores for the last 3 years, have their questions answered regarding the school's composition, study, tuition, boarding, etc., and visit laboratories, functional rooms, and participate in school activities.
"In addition to providing consultation as assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, we will provide more information so that students can understand the school better and make appropriate choices," said Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School.
3 subjects exam
According to information announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to take place in early June 2024. Candidates will take three subjects including literature, math and foreign language.
This is the first year that Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will not organize regular classes in specialized schools. This is also the last 10th grade exam to be conducted according to the 2006 general education program.
Maximum 5 wishes
This year, candidates can register for 3 regular grade 10 options at public high schools. Candidates who register for specialized options will only be able to register for 2 specialized grade 10 options instead of 4 specialized options like previous years.
For candidates taking the entrance exam for integrated grade 10, in addition to the 3 grade 10 wishes, there will usually be 2 more integrated wishes in high schools that enroll integrated classes. Candidates who register for specialized wishes will not be able to register for integrated wishes and vice versa.
Festival "Confidently entering grade 10"
From 7:30 to 11:30 on March 10 , Tuoi Tre newspaper coordinated with the Department of Education and Training of District 1 to organize the "Confidently enter 10th grade" festival at Trung Vuong High School (No. 3A Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
The festival hopes to help 9th grade students and parents access new and useful information about the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year.
The festival program will include the following contents: information about the 10th grade entrance exam in 2024; advice on choosing a school, psychology, health, and career direction for students after junior high school; an experiential playground for students and parents to learn about high school...
