Ngam Bridge is located on the only road from Cao Thang village (Ky Xuan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh) to the fields, serving 205 households for travel and production. This concrete bridge was originally temporary and is now seriously degraded.
Video: Opinions of villagers and village officials about Ngam bridge
The only road from Cao Thang village to the fields is divided by the Ngam River. In the past, to cross the river for production, people had to use wood or boulders to make temporary tunnels.
On the other side of Ngam bridge is more than 30 hectares of production land of 205 households in Cao Thang village.
In 1997, a concrete bridge was built across the Ngam River, solving many difficulties for the people here. However, with a width of less than 1.2m, a fairly large height but no railing, it poses many potential risks of accidents.
The height of the bridge is quite large, so it is very dangerous if someone or a vehicle accidentally falls into the river.
According to Mr. Phan Son Hai - Head of Cao Thang village, when the bridge was built in the past, due to limited budget and no need for large loads, the design of the bridge was both small and did not ensure stability. After decades of overwork, the bridge became "sick".
The bridge is quite long but has only one pillar and has also cracked over time.
Mr. Tran Xuan Huy (Cao Thang village) said: “For many years, knowing that it is very dangerous, but to cross the river for production, people have to go through this bridge and there is no other way. No matter how hard the work is, I am not as afraid as when I bring production materials or products across the bridge. There have been many people and objects that have fallen into the river. Although no one has died, every time we cross the bridge, people are worried.
The roads leading to both sides of the bridge are also seriously degraded.
Not only is it narrow, but recently, this bridge has seriously degraded. In many places, the cement is peeling off, exposing the steel bars. In particular, the bridge pillars and abutments on both sides are cracked and broken into pieces.
The bridge abutments are in a broken state, unable to bear the load....
...and could fall at any moment.
Because the bridge has not been repaired, the important road serving the production of more than 30 hectares of rice and crops in the village has not been upgraded, making travel and transportation very difficult, especially when it rains.
The bridge banks were broken in many places, exposing the iron bars.
In recent years, through meetings or at the People's Council sessions, people as well as officials of Cao Thang village have regularly reflected, petitioned and proposed that all levels promptly support the reconstruction of this bridge, but so far there have been no results.
The solid concrete road connecting the inner-field road to Ngam bridge is still unfinished...
Village chief Phan Son Hai said: “Without being able to rebuild this Ngam bridge, people’s production is facing many limitations, especially in bringing machinery into production and harvesting. We hope that all levels and sectors will pay attention to rebuilding this bridge to help people suffer less and avoid the dangers lurking when crossing.”
