Dream Bridge
The new residential bridge across the Ngang River, part of the Tam Tra - Tra Kot road project (from DT617 - Nui Thanh road to National Highway 40B - Bac Tra My), started construction in 2021, with the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor.
This community bridge is 42m long, 8m wide with 2 spans and is solidly built with reinforced concrete. After many years of unfinished construction due to site clearance problems, the bridge was finally completed and put into use in 2024.
When the communal bridge across the Ngang River was handed over and put into use, it brought joy to many households in Tam Tra and Tam Son communes of Nui Thanh district.
From here, people can travel conveniently without having to worry about crossing the old bridge that swept away people and motorbikes during the flood season; transporting goods is also convenient, contributing to local economic development.
Mr. Nguyen Anh (40 years old, Co ethnic group, Phu Tu village) said that his family lives near the old bridge over the Ngang River. During the dry season, travel is normal, but during the rainy season, flood water rises, causing the bridge to be submerged more than 1 meter deep, which is very dangerous.
“I used to participate in rescuing people and motorbikes swept away by floodwaters while traveling through the old bridge, so I always felt uneasy. Since the new bridge was put into use, I and the people in the village in particular and the whole commune in general have been very happy because traveling is convenient and safe,” Mr. Anh shared.
People join hands
Mr. Phan Cong Binh (Phu Tu village, Tam Tra commune) said that when the government had a policy to build a new people's bridge across the Ngang River, his family agreed to hand over nearly 2,000 square meters of land for the investor to clear the site.
The government has also compensated the family for the land at the price prescribed by the land law. Currently, his family still has more than 118 square meters of land near the foot of the bridge that is being negotiated for compensation at the new current price.
“During the rainy season, floodwaters from upstream flooded the old bridge, making it difficult and dangerous for local people to travel. Therefore, after the local government and relevant agencies mobilized and agreed on a satisfactory compensation price, I felt secure in handing over the land. On the other hand, I have witnessed traffic participants being swept away by floods and felt very heartbroken, so I want to hand over the affected land soon so that the project can be completed,” Mr. Binh shared.
According to Mr. Binh, now that the new bridge has been completed and put into use, he feels happy. What he wishes for is for the construction unit to soon compensate for the remaining land area and build a concrete embankment in front of his house so that water does not flow in during the rainy season.
About 200m west of Mr. Binh's house, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (53 years old, Phu Tu village) is also one of the households whose land area is most affected when the government builds a new bridge for people.
Ms. Hue said that when she handed over the garden land to build the bridge, she felt regretful because she could grow acacia all year round, bringing in a relatively stable income.
However, for the common good, her family agreed to hand over hundreds of square meters of garden land to build a bridge for the people. Not only that, her family also allowed the construction unit to exploit thousands of cubic meters of land behind the garden to make the road leading to the bridge more convenient.
“Currently, I just hope that the authorities will soon compensate my family for the land according to the land law price and build an embankment and fence in front of the house to ensure safety,” said Ms. Hue.
Mr. Do Thanh Tung - Vice Chairman of Tam Tra Commune People's Committee said that before building the people's bridge across Ngang River, the commune government actively promoted and mobilized people to sacrifice their own interests to hand over land for the bridge.
There is a common voice between the government and the people, when the bridge was completed, everyone was very excited. The completed bridge put into use not only meets the travel needs of the people but also contributes to ensuring traffic, facilitating the circulation of goods, and the lives of the people also change positively.
“With a solid bridge across the river, people no longer have to worry about being isolated during the rainy season. Compensation will be applied according to the 2024 Land Law. Specifically, on the afternoon of November 13, the commune government and relevant agencies met with people to explain the situation and apply new land prices to reassure people,” Mr. Tung informed.
