According to People's Artist Thanh Tuyet, folk art performances at cultural houses, cultural centers and television channels in recent times have contributed to enhancing people's perception and enjoyment of works of art in life.
National pride
Audiences in Ho Chi Minh City as well as tourists are very interested in the elaborately staged and attractive folk art programs such as the Southern amateur music program "On the wharf under the boat" in District 8 and Binh Chanh District; the program "Introducing new melodies and local songs" (in Nha Be District). In addition, there are also the program "Introducing traditional musical instruments and reformed opera art" (co-produced by FPT University Ho Chi Minh City and Tran Huu Trang Theater), the program "School stage - introducing excerpts of Vietnamese history" (Lac Long Quan Theater Club), the amateur music and folk art program (in Binh Thanh District) ... have created attractive folk art exchange points, regular destinations for many audiences, including many young audiences.

In early September, the discussion program with the theme "Promoting the role of folk art in cultivating and building the morality of Vietnamese people today" organized by HTV also received positive feedback from the public. Famous artists, musicians and singers of Ho Chi Minh City raised recommendations to contribute to building the spiritual foundation of society and the comprehensive development of culture and art in general, and folk art in particular.
Prestigious artists of Ho Chi Minh City have stated: Folk literature, including the performing arts form, is a particularly delicate field of culture, an essential need, expressing the human aspiration for truth, goodness and beauty.
People's Artist Thanh Tuyet said: "When folk art is performed on stage, social and ethical issues are conveyed through aesthetic elements through lyrics, poems and characters, contributing to fostering patriotism, national pride, ethics, lifestyle and personality."
Need special mechanism for folk art
According to insiders, besides the achievements in building a new image of modern man, there are still many problems in folk art that have not been systematically resolved. Currently, folk art still lacks a team of professional authors who have the courage to convey the concerns of the times into folk songs and Southern amateur music.
People's Artist Hong Oanh worries: Folk art currently does not have many authors who have ventured into the cutting-edge fields of modern life, portraying the typical characteristics of today's people in the era of integration and opening up, typical of a developed society and a developed culture. "There is a need for many compositions in genres such as: Vi Giam, folk songs, Hue songs, new pieces of Southern amateur music... to spread the noble spiritual values in community life, honoring the achievements of folk art" - People's Artist Hong Oanh suggested.
The artists also believe that the current folk art life still lacks professional critics and theorists. It is worth noting that the market mechanism, on the one hand, helps the creative team of literature and art in general and folk art in particular to be more dynamic, but also causes this team to be strongly divided.
People's Artist Ut Ty believes that the state should soon issue specific mechanisms for folk art, including organizing performances and promoting new works. There should be a strategy to order the creation of in-depth folk art works to have top-notch folk art works to serve the public's enjoyment needs.
"Regularly organize festivals and competitions to improve the performance level of folk artists, thereby exchanging and learning experiences, constantly improving performance level and cultivating professional ethics to create sustainable development for the folk art team in Ho Chi Minh City" - People's Artisan Ut Ty emphasized.
People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc commented: "It is necessary to focus on communication activities with the audience, especially students, so that young audiences can understand the humanistic values of folk art works, and behave in accordance with social ethical standards. Along with that is a plan to train and foster a team of artisans, amateur musicians, amateur singers; authors; painters; musicians; directors; choreographers... to contribute to improving the quality of folk art works."
