On the morning of October 25, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DTC) of the province coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Nam province to organize the workshop "Workshop on tourism development associated with biodiversity conservation - Quang Nam 2024".
The workshop was attended by nearly 200 delegates from tourism businesses, management boards of tourist areas and national parks in localities across the country.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said that Quang Nam province has an important tourism position, located in the center of the Central Vietnam tourism route with many types of tourism bearing the unique characteristics of Quang Nam land based on the richness of the local cultural heritage system.
However, facing many impacts that can affect the sustainable development of tourism, including the impact on the natural environment and heritage environment, Quang Nam province has issued many important resolutions on tourism development, with the viewpoint of "preservation for development, development for preservation" and building a set of Green Tourism Criteria, at the same time, identifying one of the key tasks in tourism development is to focus on developing sea and island tourism products, cultural tourism, eco-tourism, community tourism with high attractiveness and competitiveness, ensuring the principles of sustainable tourism development;...
“From efforts to improve the tourism environment in a sustainable direction, building products based on exploiting unique cultural values, proactively developing products in a natural direction, prioritizing environmentally friendly tourism products... Many localities and tourist destinations in Quang Nam have received many important awards, for example, Tra Que Vegetable Village was honored by UN Tourism as the World's Best Tourist Village in 2024 - The award will be presented by UN Tourism next November in Colombia...", said Mr. Van Ba Son.
According to a representative of the Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area Management Board, biodiversity is of great importance because a healthy environment is a key factor in the competitiveness of the tourism industry. Seas, islands, mountains, rivers and forests are major attractions for tourists around the world. Biodiversity lies at the heart of nature-based tourism products – such as wildlife watching, scuba diving or tourism in protected areas.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hai, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, said that sustainable tourism helps exploit resources scientifically, thereby providing socio-economic benefits and services to local communities, contributing to improving livelihoods and increasing income for the community, which is a harmonious and sustainable approach between humans and nature.
At the workshop, delegates presented papers such as: Ecotourism associated with nature conservation in Bach Ma National Park; State management of biodiversity in Quang Nam province and orientation to 2030, vision to 20250; Tourism with biodiversity - opportunity associated with responsibility;...
On that basis, delegates exchanged, discussed, shared information, proposed solutions to integrate biodiversity conservation, livelihood transformation and sustainable tourism for socio-economic development. Proposed solutions to mobilize community participation in activities to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity, develop eco-tourism models, and sustainable tourism based on nature.
