This year, the important award went to Kodi, the Griffon mix who starred in the film Dog on Trial , which is also the main character in this Swiss film.

The film Dog on Trial is described as a social commentary, exploring the place of dogs in the lives of modern humans.

In the film, Kodi plays Cosmos, a vicious dog who is brought to court for his actions and even has a lawyer to defend him.

According to Palm Dog Award founder Toby Rose, Kodi is almost 10 years old and will soon "retire" from acting, so he wanted to win the highest award for him for this excellent final performance.

Additionally, the Grand Prix Palm Dog (voted by the jury, the second-biggest prize after the Palm Dog) was awarded to a Jack Russell Greyhound cross named Xin in the film Black Dog, another film that also features a dog as its central character.

The story of Black Dog revolves around a young man named Lang (played by Eddie Peng) who is assigned to capture stray dogs in town before the 2008 Olympic Games.

At this time, he accidentally found Xin, a special black dog, the two characters had a soul connection and started a new journey together.

Although he missed out on the top prize, Xin the dog received good news with his owner when the movie Black Dog won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard category at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Palm Dog Award is an annual side prize presented by the international film critics at the Cannes Film Festival for the best performance by a dog (real or animated).

The prize consists of a leather dog collar with the word Palm Dog. The prize's name is a play on the word Palme d'Or (the Palme d'Or - the highest award at the Cannes Film Festival).
