At Binh Dong wharf (District 8), many boats carrying flowers from the Western provinces such as Ben Tre, Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Long An... have begun to dock to serve people in Ho Chi Minh City.
Being the first boat to dock at Binh Dong wharf, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tai (48 years old, Ben Tre) happily said: "My family mainly grows bougainvillea, which we have sold to other provinces before. My brothers and sisters in the family took advantage of the opportunity to bring the flowers to Ho Chi Minh City to sell early."
The colorful boat with pots of bougainvillea flowers is transported to Ben Binh Dong (District 8) to sell to customers during the Lunar New Year.
Most boats are used to their maximum capacity for transportation, making travel difficult.
At nearly midnight, some boats carrying flowers from the Western provinces to Ho Chi Minh City just docked. Before leaving, traders had carefully prepared for a bountiful spring harvest.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Toan (52 years old, Ben Tre) expressed: ''Before coming here, it took 3 days to prepare, clean and arrange flowers on the boat. It's very hard, going by car is faster but the cost is higher, I still traditionally go by boat to limit transportation costs and for luck''.
After a long journey by boat carrying flowers from the West to Ben Binh Dong to sell for Tet, Mr. Ho Thanh Luan (35 years old) took a nap to regain his strength.
Two days before, many vendors prepared flower selling areas to serve the Lunar New Year.
"I have been selling here for more than 15 years. Every year before selling flowers, I come here to burn incense and pray for good business. This year, my family sold more than 2,000 flowers, mainly yellow apricot and chrysanthemum," said Ms. Le Minh Vu (37 years old, from Long An).
Some people in Ho Chi Minh City took advantage of the opportunity to go out early to buy flowers to display during Tet to support the sellers.
Spring flowers bloom signaling a new year is approaching.
Some Tet flower sellers said that this year, due to economic difficulties, the number of flowers has decreased by more than 30% compared to last year. All the flower sellers along Binh Dong Wharf hope to sell all their flowers before December 30 so they can take them home by boat to celebrate Tet.
