Buon Ma Thuot is a city located in Dak Lak province, in the Central Highlands. It borders Krong Pac district to the east, Cu Kuin district to the southeast, Cu Jut district of Dak Nong province to the west, Krong Ana district to the south, and Cu M'gar and Buon Don districts to the north.
Buon Ma Thuot is the core city of the world-famous coffee growing region, where delicious Robusta coffee beans are produced, favored by the global coffee enthusiast community. In 1857, the French introduced coffee to our country, but it was not until 1914 that the French chose Buon Ma Thuot as the place to specialize in Robusta coffee cultivation based on careful research and surveys of soil, climate, altitude, ancient alluvial layer, etc.
According to explorer, doctor, and celebrity Yersin, this place has the best soil in the world, very suitable for opening industrial crop plantations, especially coffee.
With a layer of red basalt soil with good physical properties, high water retention and nutrient absorption capacity, and an altitude of about 500 - 600m above sea level, a cool climate with two rainy and sunny seasons, Buon Ma Thuot and surrounding areas within a radius of 20km were chosen to become Robusta coffee farms for the best flavor and quality.
French roasters at that time appreciated the quality and natural flavor of Buon Ma Thuot coffee as being more aromatic and richer than Ivory Coast coffee, which was famous throughout Europe at that time. Since then, coffee farms have been formed and developed strongly over the past 100 years in Buon Ma Thuot.
With the highest Robusta coffee output in the country and the special quality of coffee beans crystallized from the quintessence of heaven, earth, nature and the love and culture of the indigenous people, Buon Ma Thuot has become the homeland of the best Robusta coffee beans in the world, making Vietnam a coffee exporting powerhouse.
True to its title as the “coffee capital”, Buon Ma Thuot is not only an attractive destination for tourists who want to explore the natural beauty and culture, but also the leading coffee production center of Vietnam. Coming here, you can join coffee tours, learn about the coffee growing and processing process, and enjoy the unique flavors of Buon Ma Thuot coffee.
Coffee harvest season in Buon Ma Thuot usually takes place from November to January. Coming to Buon Me at the end of the year (October, November, December), visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the bustling atmosphere when everyone here is eager to go to the fields to harvest coffee. The coffee variety grown in Buon Ma Thuot is mainly Robusta coffee, with ripe red fruits, forming clusters on bare branches, creating a beautiful image.
