The workshop "Contributing ideas to the development of a set of standards for quality assessment of medical doctor training programs" organized by the Center for Education Quality Assessment - Ho Chi Minh City National University in collaboration with the Vietnam Medical Education Association took place in Ho Chi Minh City all day on February 23.
Quality assurance of medical doctor training is more urgent than ever
The workshop was attended by nearly 100 experts from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health, the Vietnam Medical Education Association, medical professional associations, medical schools nationwide, hospitals and students...
Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan - Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Education Association - said that quality assessment of medical doctor training programs is important, contributing to improving the operational efficiency of medical training institutions, ensuring the output quality of the health sector.
"Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training has an accreditation system used to evaluate all training programs. Meanwhile, the medical industry needs a separate accreditation system, but our country does not have one yet.
In the context of Vietnam's healthcare industry being on the rise, quality assurance of medical doctor training programs is more urgent than ever," Mr. Tuan emphasized.
Want Vietnamese medical doctor degree to be stronger, recognized by the world
According to Mr. Huynh Van Chuong - Director of the Department of Quality Management - Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Education and Training is amending Circular 04, assessing training programs in the direction of integrating many sets of regional standards AUN-QA.
However, many opinions at this conference wished that Vietnam's medical doctor degree would be stronger and more integrated with the world. That is also the spirit of Prime Minister's Decision 78 to strengthen international integration.
"For diploma recognition, first of all, both sides must be fair. If we want to be recognized, our accreditation must be equal to theirs. This is the biggest problem today. Between two accredited and unaccredited schools, there will definitely be no mutual recognition of diplomas.
Before submitting this set of standards to the higher levels, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health, it is necessary to have the consensus of many universities and training units. It is necessary to determine the roadmap for when to submit and issue this set of standards. In particular, it is necessary to maintain the core values of the World Medical Association - WFME accreditation standards framework," said Mr. Chuong.

Standards for quality assessment of integrated medical training
Also according to Professor Tran Diep Tuan, currently, the countries in the world use the most WFME standards, including the US.
Therefore, the Center for Education Quality Assessment - Ho Chi Minh City National University in collaboration with the Vietnam Medical Education Association based on that to build a set of standards for assessing the quality of medical doctor training programs.
This set of standards includes 8 standards with many criteria in each standard: mission and core values; training program; assessment; students; academic staff; educational resources; quality assurance; governance and administration.
"The most important point in this set of standards is the general philosophy for building the set of standards according to WFME. At the workshop, everyone had many useful opinions and all wanted to have a set of standards for assessing the quality of medical doctor training programs that are integrated and internationally recognized," said Mr. Tuan.
