Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, presented gifts to support Agent Orange victims.
Over the years, the Party, State and people have paid great attention to, shared with and supported victims of Agent Orange/dioxin to overcome illness and difficulties and strive to improve their lives.
Continuing that tradition, today, on the occasion of "Day for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims" (August 10), many charitable activities were organized across the country. And these humanitarian acts have been widely shared on social networking platforms.
The charity texting program “Join hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange” was launched by the Central Committee of the Association in coordination with the National Humanitarian Information Portal 1400 and related agencies and units. It can be said that this is one of the annual activities, with profound humanitarian significance, a practical and effective way, suitable for the psychological characteristics and financial capacity of the majority of people and social groups. The money collected from the program not only reflects the sentiment and responsibility of the social community towards the victims of Agent Orange but also makes the majority of Vietnamese people and international friends better understand the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam and the work to overcome the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.
In 2022, from July 20, 2022 to September 17, 2022, the program received more than 136,000 messages equivalent to more than 2.7 billion VND. The entire amount mobilized in 2022 was used by the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin to support the renovation of 06 houses for victims in Nghe An, Lang Son, Kon Tum provinces, each house worth 50 million VND; support Nam Dinh with 01 house worth 35 million VND and repair 9 houses for victims in Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien provinces, each house worth 15 million VND. The Organizing Committee visited and presented Tet gifts to families of victims in provinces across the country with a total value of nearly 2 billion VND. In addition, the Organizing Committee supported the Da Nang Center with 200 million VND and the Center for Support under TWH with 453 million VND.
This year, starting at 0:00 on July 20, the text message program to support Agent Orange victims was launched with the message "Each text message - A heart for Agent Orange victims" and ended on September 19. Understanding the great significance of the program, many netizens shared images and text message syntax with the hope that this beautiful action will spread widely to everyone across the country. In 2023, the program strives to reach 3 billion VND or more. The proceeds will be used for the following activities: Supporting medical examination and treatment; building and repairing charity houses; supporting vocational training; nurturing and giving gifts to Agent Orange victims in localities...
With the motto “Towards the grassroots, towards the victims”, since its establishment, the Association for Victims of Agent Orange has received the full support and assistance from state agencies and domestic and foreign organizations. The purpose of the association’s activities set forth by the Party and State is “No Agent Orange victims are left behind”.
The Association, through many creative and flexible ways of mobilizing, has attracted the support of all levels, sectors, socio-political organizations, businesses, and domestic and foreign philanthropists to join hands in alleviating the pain of Agent Orange. From 2018 to June 2023 alone, the Association has mobilized to build the Agent Orange Victims Fund, reaching 1,858.99 billion VND; of which direct support (in cash and in kind) is worth 673.32 billion VND. Thanks to that, many Agent Orange victims in difficult circumstances have been supported to repair and build new houses; received gifts, vocational training support, job search support; capital support, livelihood support to escape poverty, and gradually stabilize their lives.
On this day, charitable activities took place across the country. Gifts of both material and spiritual value were given to help Agent Orange victims ease their difficulties.
