Many activities promote reading culture

Students participate in the book exhibition at the Provincial Library.

Attending the book and newspaper exhibition organized by the Provincial Library, students and people were able to visit and admire thousands of valuable books and newspapers. The books and newspapers were displayed beautifully, attractively and easily accessible by library staff. Trinh Hoang Linh, a student at Dien Bien Secondary School (Thanh Hoa City) said: "Coming to the book and newspaper exhibition, I was immersed in a space full of interesting books and stories. Not only that, I also got to read the books and stories that I love and discuss with friends about the content of the books". As for Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (Thanh Hoa City), every time he heard that the Provincial Library would organize a book and newspaper exhibition, he participated. Mr. Nam shared: "Participating in the book and newspaper exhibition of the Provincial Library, I have the opportunity to access many good and valuable books. Therefore, I always take the time to participate in the book introduction activities of the Provincial Library".

Deputy Director of the Provincial Library Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan said: "Every year, on the occasion of Tet, holidays, and events of the province and the country, the Provincial Library often organizes exhibitions of books and newspapers to introduce to readers. In 2024, the Provincial Library organized 16 exhibitions of books, newspapers, documents, and images, attracting 6,752 readers. At the same time, it organizes activities such as inviting speakers to talk about books, organizing storytelling competitions based on books, drawing pictures, etc. These events have contributed to introducing good books and newspapers to readers, creating connections between people and books and libraries, and encouraging people's passion for reading."

Along with implementing activities at the library, the Provincial Library has regularly coordinated with schools and localities to organize reading festivals and provide mobile library services. In 2024, the Provincial Library organized mobile library services to 53 schools in the province. At the destinations, the Provincial Library promoted the role of books, propagated the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; disseminated new technologies and techniques, and educated ethics and healthy lifestyles for all classes of people. With many activities of displaying and serving readers, the activities of the mobile library and the reading festival have created a new space and environment for local people to access many good and beautiful books, arousing their passion for reading and reading skills.

To achieve that result, the Provincial Library regularly innovates activities at the library and facilities; strengthens connections with authors, publishers, and bookstores to organize programs to introduce good books, rare books, and new books. At the same time, regularly allocates funds to supplement new books; mobilizes all resources to support books and newspapers for the library, and improves the quantity and quality of books, newspapers, and magazines at the library.

To spread the reading culture in the community, the Provincial Library has focused on the circulation of books and newspapers to bookcases, libraries, and reading rooms at the grassroots level in the province. The unit constantly selects and supplements its document capital, and builds a rotating book warehouse. Every year, in addition to books purchased from the budget and books of national target programs, the Provincial Library also receives donated books from individuals, organizations inside and outside the province, and publishers. On average, each year the library circulates about 3,500 - 4,000 copies of books to district and commune libraries, family bookcases, and prisons. To enrich the circulating book source and create "new vitality" for the grassroots library, before implementing the book circulation, the Provincial Library staff proactively surveys the reading needs of readers at the grassroots level. From there, select and supplement the document capital to the rotating warehouse to suit the needs of the grassroots level. The circulation of books to the grassroots has contributed to building a sustainable library system with diverse and rich sources of materials, which are regularly updated, attracting the attention of readers.

Along with book rotation, librarians also guide local libraries on how to build and arrange bookcases and book warehouses scientifically and attractively for readers; guide them on how to organize reading activities and introduce books to people.

Implementing the project "Developing reading culture in the community for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" in Thanh Hoa province, the Provincial Library has determined to take readers as the center. Therefore, the Provincial Library has promoted propaganda work on the importance and significance of books and reading for each person and the community. Propaganda forms have been deployed in a diverse and rich manner through book reading festivals, book and newspaper exhibitions; through propaganda articles on social networking platforms, billboards, posters... Along with that, the Provincial Library has actively promoted propaganda work, mobilizing people, especially students, to participate in the "Reading Culture Ambassador" contest; encouraged schools to build models of "Green Library", "Smart Library"...

With many rich and diverse activities, the Provincial Library has been arousing people's passion for reading, building reading habits, and gradually forming a reading culture in the community.
