According to The Verge , CES 2024 saw the appearance of a lot of smart rings, showing that real competition is taking place in this segment, contributing to its growth.
The J-Style is one of several smart rings showcased at CES 2024
Smart rings represent a promising form factor for wearables, but getting it right is no easy task. Measuring pulse and blood oxygen levels is more comfortable on the finger than on the wrist, where smartwatches are now. However, the relatively small design also requires the same amount of components, leading to smart rings being more expensive and less functional than smartwatches.
The last notable device was the Movano Evie Ring. It’s a smart ring that was first introduced at CES 2022 but only went on sale this month. The Evie Ring costs $269 and is aimed primarily at women, although the manufacturer assures anyone can use it.
Evie Ring is expected to ship this month
The ring comes with a simplified app that tracks blood oxygen levels, heart rate, activity, and monthly menstrual cycles – all analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. The Evie Ring has an attractive design and expands when unlocked to accommodate swollen fingers.
The Amazfit Helio Ring also looks promising, a smart ring that’s designed for athletes to track their recovery cycles. It also syncs with the Amazfit smartwatch, which gives users all the necessary metrics gathered from the Helio Ring. Amazfit is known for making functional devices at affordable prices, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Helio Ring continue that when it launches in the spring.
Zikr Ring to help remind Muslims when to pray
Several other smart rings were also introduced at CES 2024. For example, the Zikr Ring aimed at Muslims offers five daily reminders when it’s time to pray, while RingConn offers similar features to the Oura Ring but at a lower price point. Big brands are also interested in this segment, with Samsung rumored to be working on a Galaxy Ring smart ring. With all that going on, competition should help push the smart ring market forward this year.
