Doctor Nguyen Quoc Trieu, former Minister of Health and former Head of the Central Committee for Health Care and Protection of Officials, passed away on the afternoon of January 24 at the age of 71.
The Ministry of Health said that Mr. Trieu has been treated at Bach Mai Hospital since mid-2024 in a fairly serious condition.
The funeral of former Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu will be held according to high-level protocol. The visitation will start at 7:00 a.m. on January 26 at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
Mr. Trieu was born in Bac Ninh province, is a member of the 10th Central Executive Committee; former Head of the Central Committee for Protection and Health Care of Officials; former Minister of Health; former Chairman of Hanoi City.
He spent a long time working at the Ministry of Health, making many contributions to the prevention of the A/H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009 and the acute diarrhea outbreak in many places in 2007. He was also the one who proposed Project 1861, sending specialized staff from upper-level hospitals to support lower-level hospitals. Thanks to this policy, the quality of lower-level healthcare has been improved, helping people enjoy high-quality healthcare right in their localities, reducing the burden on upper-level hospitals.
With the above achievements, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu was awarded the First Class Independence Medal; First, Second, and Third Class Labor Medals; Second Class Resistance War Medal for National Salvation; Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Soldier Badge; and 50-Year Party Membership Badge.
