Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy, Vice President and General Secretary of Binh Dinh Mathematics Association, is the first person in Binh Dinh province to be awarded the title of People's Teacher by the State.
On November 17, at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace (Hanoi), teacher Huynh Duy Thuy (62 years old, in Hoai Nhon Town, Binh Dinh), Vice President and General Secretary of the Binh Dinh Mathematics Association, was honored to receive the title of People's Teacher from the State for his great contributions to the cause of education and training. This is the first teacher in Binh Dinh province to be awarded the title of People's Teacher.
People's Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy40 years of work, 45 scientific topics
With 40 years of working in the education and training sector, People's Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy has 45 scientific topics. The topics he researches contain a certain amount of gray matter. The content of the topics does not lie in the "quantity" but mainly in the "quality" of thinking, expressed in two languages, Vietnamese and English. Among them, many topics are confirmed to have influence and the ability to be applied nationwide.

In addition, he also received 5 creative labor certificates from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and was honored 3 times as a typical intellectual in science and technology at the provincial level. Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy was also awarded the title of National Emulation Fighter and the Third Class Labor Medal.
During his teaching career, he participated in training the team of excellent math students of Binh Dinh province and had 38 students win national prizes. Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy was also a reporter at the international conference "Mathematics of Central - Central Highlands" and many scientific conferences on math topics nationwide...
Passion and love for mathematics
In 1984, after graduating from the teacher training school, teacher Huynh Duy Thuy returned to his hometown and worked at Hoai Nhon 1 High School (now Tang Bat Ho High School) until May 2017. From June 2017, he was assigned as the head of the math-IT group at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted (Hoai Nhon Town) as soon as the school was established. In June 2023, teacher Huynh Duy Thuy retired according to the regime.
Talking to Thanh Nien reporters in mid-November, teacher Huynh Duy Thuy said that he has been in the teaching profession for 40 years and has also been "in contact" with mathematics for the same number of years. Currently, although he is retired, every time he solves a problem in a national or international competition for excellent students, he still has the same indescribable feeling of excitement, like when he was young. To create joy and inspiration for himself, he imagines that solving a problem is like discovering the hidden, interesting and fascinating beauty hidden within it.
Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy said that in the first days of officially getting acquainted with the blackboard, white chalk, and practicing to be a teacher, he faced many strange things of the years when the country still had traces of war. With his youth at that time, enthusiasm, perseverance and patriotism were always attached. He told himself that he had to try to do something, no matter how small.
People's Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy talks about his first days of teaching
Since then, with his expertise, he has nurtured a passion and love for mathematics. He gradually realized the strange and mysterious properties in mathematics. For example, the Fibonacci sequence is found in all things from shells, trees, leaves, pistils, petals... with natural, wild, pure beauty. And is it a coincidence that seemingly dry numbers have become able to express emotions in the 411 verses of the masterpiece "Truyen Kieu" by the great poet Nguyen Du.
Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy also often writes poems about his homeland and has written a number of songs about school and student life. Sometimes, he "improvises" and writes a few vọng cổ verses...
"When I was young, I loved playing football, and was a striker (both literally and figuratively) of the mathematics department of Quy Nhon University of Education in the early 80s of the last century. In the dramatic final match with the physics department that took place on the afternoon of Sunday, June 20, 1982, in the extra minute of the match, I let the ball touch my hand in the penalty area, was penalized, and the home team lost painfully. Until now, I still feel heartbroken and aching inside," teacher Huynh Duy Thuy said with a laugh.
Student's friend
For students, teacher Huynh Duy Thuy not only plays the role of a teacher but also a friend, always listening, sharing, and devoting himself to his beloved students. He always cares about training and forming the will to self-study in students, awakening the inherent inner strength of youth, which is the sensitivity to new and good things. Teaching students to have good attitudes, habits, appropriate behavior and communication skills, and skills in collective activities, a spirit of cooperation, and the ability to apply knowledge into practice; creating confidence, interest, and high responsibility in learning for students.
He always knows how to exploit and promote the positivity, self-awareness and creativity of students. Teach students how to approach knowledge, based on a system of tight, supportive reasoning to build bridges, connect hidden content with knowledge to be aimed at, thereby creating new, groundbreaking, unique, independent and sophisticated thoughts in thinking. Guide students in the techniques of exploring problems from different perspectives, creating reflexes, ways to express problems, helping to improve their ability to observe, hunch, and increasingly sophisticated mathematical intuition.
Always remind yourself to maintain a humble lifestyle.
Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy is known for his honest, simple lifestyle and compassion. He has taken a portion of his pension to give gifts to disadvantaged students at Tang Bat Ho High School, Phan Boi Chau High School, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, and Bong Son Middle School (Hoai Nhon Town) with a total amount of 15 million VND per year.
"This action is like sending love and a message of encouragement to the children to study hard, obey their teachers and look towards the future. I have a wish to do this from now until the end of my life," said teacher Huynh Duy Thuy.

Teacher Huynh Duy Thuy confided: "I have stood on the podium for many years, and then the day comes when I get old, when I leave the blackboard and white chalk. However, I still think about the school, the class where for the past 40 years, I have been going back and forth like it was my own home. I still think about my teachers and students as my loved ones who have been with me all these years. In the remaining short days of my life, I tell myself to always maintain a humble, honest, and standard lifestyle, caring and sharing with a high sense of responsibility in behavior and in fulfilling my duties as a citizen."

Throughout his teaching career, he has educated many generations of successful students, contributing greatly to the cause of educating people in the country in general and Binh Dinh province in particular.
