At this time, livestock farmers in Vu Quang district (Ha Tinh) are focusing on increasing their herds and fattening their livestock to serve the Tet market.
Pig herd of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phong's family (Kieu village, Tho Dien commune).
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phong's family (Kieu village, Tho Dien commune) is one of the households raising pigs on a fairly large scale with more than 80 pigs/batch. Although the current pig price is low and the price of feed is high, but to "wait" for the Tet market, since the beginning of October, his family has proactively increased the herd of pigs to more than 100 to ensure income at the end of the year.
Mr. Phong shared: "Tet is considered a business time for farmers, because at that time the market demand for pork is very high. To have enough supply to ensure quality during Tet, in addition to increasing the herd, the family always strictly follows the breeding process, cleaning the barn to ensure the health of the pigs. Besides, I always focus on supplementing nutrients and probiotics to help the pigs grow well, develop quickly, and promptly serve the Tet market."
According to Mr. Phong, currently, the price of live pigs in the province is fluctuating around 52,000 VND/kg. He hopes that the price of pigs will increase near Tet so that farmers can expand their farming scale for the next batches.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoai (village 6, Tho Dien commune) always focuses on disease prevention for his family's livestock.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoai’s family (village 6, Tho Dien commune) is also actively taking care of and fattening their herd of buffalo and cows to sell them in time for Tet this year. It is known that Mr. Hoai’s family has just bought 3 more cows, bringing the family’s total herd to 8.
Mr. Hoai said: “Every year, my family always proactively increases the herd of buffalo and cows. In order to sell them in time for Tet. In addition to feeding the animals with common foods, I also supplement them with corn flour and cassava flour. Besides, diseases are still “lurking”, so I always pay attention to cleaning the barns and vaccinating them fully, helping the animals grow well.”
The whole Tho Dien commune currently has nearly 2 thousand buffaloes and cows.
Tho Dien commune is one of the localities with strong buffalo and cow breeding development in Vu Quang district, with a total herd of nearly 2 thousand cows. It is expected that this Tet holiday, the whole commune will sell about 600 buffalo and cows.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Nhan - Chairman of Tho Dien Commune People's Committee said: "In recent years, raising buffaloes and cows has brought a stable source of income for local people. Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances, the cattle herd in the area has been basically crossbred. Local people also focus on investing in renovating barns, using quality industrial feed, advanced breeding techniques, meeting the increasing demand of the market."
Tet is considered a business season for Vu Quang farmers.
Not only pig and buffalo and cow farmers, chicken farmers in Vu Quang district have also proactively increased their herds to meet the year-end market.
Ms. Le Thi Nhan (Binh Quang village, Duc Lien commune) shared: “To serve the Tet market, my family has raised more than 800 chickens. Currently, the chickens are growing healthily. During the raising process, my family always strictly follows biosafety procedures, separating old and new chickens. Hopefully, by the time Tet approaches, the chickens will bring a good income to the family.”
This is a good time for farmers to increase their herds, ensuring supply for the upcoming Tet market. Therefore, farmers in Vu Quang district have focused on investing in renovating barns and using appropriate feed to keep their livestock healthy and meet the increasing demands of the market.
However, according to the recommendations of the industry, at this time, the erratic weather creates opportunities for diseases to develop in livestock and poultry. Therefore, farmers need to focus on fully vaccinating against epidemics and regularly disinfecting barns.
Mr. Phan Xuan Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vu Quang district said: "Currently, the total herd of pigs in the area is nearly 37 thousand, the herd of cows is 12 thousand, the herd of buffalo is nearly 6 thousand and the herd of chickens is about 336 thousand. Increasing the herd at this time is necessary to serve the Tet market. However, to ensure effective herd increase, farmers need to proactively update the disease situation, not massively increase the herd, supplement the necessary nutrients to the diet of the livestock, ensure strict implementation of the barn hygiene process...".
