On March 27, the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) officially announced the opening of an investigation following Matasi's questionable performance in the 1-4 loss to Cameroon last October, in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

According to Marca , the 37-year-old goalkeeper was said to have received an anonymous call before the match with the content of a plan to interfere with the result. Matasi's serious mistakes in the match further raised doubts.

He let the ball bounce off his hands leading to Cameroon's second goal and then reacted slowly, allowing Christian Bassogog to easily make it 4-1. After this shocking defeat, head coach Engin Firat resigned.

FKF affirmed its "zero tolerance stance towards all match-fixing" and pledged to investigate impartially and transparently, in compliance with FIFA and CAF regulations.

"We are aware of the videos circulating online involving Patrick Matasi and the suspicions surrounding possible manipulation of match results. An official investigation has been launched in coordination with FIFA, CAF and relevant authorities," the FKF stressed.

Although there is no final conclusion, Matasi's suspension shows the seriousness of the incident. FKF promises to act decisively, while ensuring the legitimate rights of the player and the club throughout the investigation.
