AFP news agency reported on June 15 (Vietnam time) that Cambodian prosecutors have proposed prosecuting two suspects related to the death of streamer Byun Ah Yeong on two charges of torture and murder.
The two suspects are a Chinese couple.
The two suspects are a Chinese couple, Lai Wenshao (male, 30) and Cai Huijuan (female, 39). The couple was arrested after police confirmed their identities through fingerprints on the blanket wrapped around the victim.
Specific details regarding the torture allegations were not disclosed by police. However, Koreaboo reports that if convicted, the suspect could face life in prison.
The cause of Ah Yeong's murder is still unknown.
Earlier on June 11, media reported that a South Korean woman in her 30s was found dead in Cambodia on June 6. Her body was discovered by locals wrapped in a blanket and dumped in a pond in a village near Phnom Penh.
The two suspects were arrested shortly afterwards. The couple was running a medical clinic in Phnom Penh.
Streamer Ah Yeong was identified as the victim of the incident.
The Rasmei Kampuchea (Cambodia) newspaper reported that the two suspects admitted to dumping the body but denied killing the Korean girl.
The suspect said that the girl had come to their clinic for an IV and serum injection on June 4. She then suddenly had a seizure and stopped breathing. After her death, the suspect and his wife used their own car to transport the victim’s body to Kandal province to dispose of it.
According to the Korea Herald, although the victim's identity has not been revealed by authorities, based on the blurred Instagram account photo in the news, netizens believe that the unfortunate victim is streamer Byun Ah Yeong.
Byun Ah Yeong, born in 1990, is a BJ loved by Afreeca TV viewers. She is famous for her food mukbang videos. Her social media account has more than 250,000 followers.
