How to take the metro for free for the first 30 days

Urban Railway Company No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line) announced its plan to use an electronic ticket system for cashless payment for the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line. At the same time, the free ticket will be applied for the first 30 days of operation from December 22, 2024 to January 20, 2025. Within the first 10 days from December 22 to December 31, people can use EMV cards (chip-based bank cards) issued by Mastercard to take the train. People who do not have a card will be issued an anonymous or identified card (if required) to scan the card at the entrance and exit ticket gates at the stations. Mastercard and banks will organize the card issuance and provide instructions on card identification.

Things to avoid when taking the metro

When taking the train, metro passengers are not allowed to carry flammable, explosive, dangerous substances, or objects prohibited by law. Do not eat, drink, or smoke (including electronic cigarettes) in elevators or in ticket-checked areas, on platforms, or on trains. People are not allowed to use roller skates in areas within the station. Do not talk loudly or use mobile devices at high volumes, causing discomfort or disturbing surrounding passengers.

Things passengers should remember when taking the metro

Train passengers should not bring food or smelly objects on the train. These are the stations: Van Thanh, Thao Dien, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long and Binh Thai (in Thu Duc City). In addition, there are 10 more motorbike parking lots below the elevated stations. Passengers traveling at the 3 underground stations of metro line 1 in the city center can park their motorbikes in parks, shopping malls, etc. Underground station areas such as Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son do not have parking lots, so passengers can park their motorbikes in the parking lots of shopping malls and parks.
