In the report on the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City in January 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office said that January is the peak time for shopping activities before the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, businesses in the area increase the supply of goods, ensuring to meet the needs of consumers with quality, diverse designs, and stable prices.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in January 2025 is estimated at VND 107,996 billion, up 7.5% over the same period.
Of which, retail sales of goods are estimated at VND53,717 billion, accounting for 49.7% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, up 5.8% over the previous month and up 11.5% over the same period.

The group of goods serving the main needs of people during the Lunar New Year increased compared to the previous month, such as: Food and foodstuff accounted for 30.5%, up 5.7%; household appliances and equipment increased by 11.1%; cultural and educational items increased by 14.1%.
Some commodity groups had lower revenue compared to the previous month, such as: Wood and construction materials decreased by 13.4%; means of transport decreased by 11.7%; precious stones, precious metals and products decreased by 10%; repair of cars, motorbikes, motorbikes and other motor vehicles decreased by 8.9%.
Meanwhile, other service revenue was estimated at VND38,849 billion, down 16.6% from the previous month and down 1.6% from the same period last year. In this group, real estate business revenue was estimated at VND22,932 billion, accounting for 59% of other service revenue, down 3.3%.
Thus, although revenue from this industry decreased in the first month, it still contributed 21.2% to total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, second only to retail sales of goods.
In 2024, this industry group contributed VND 282,134 billion in revenue, an increase of 7.9% compared to 2023.
The Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office assessed that the real estate market has shown signs of recovery as the State's support policies have been effective, interest rates for mobilization and lending for production and business have decreased, creating conditions for people and businesses to access capital sources.
However, this unit assessed that the real estate industry still faces many difficulties and has not had enough impact on construction activities, when it increased by 2.6%, accounting for 3.2% of the total product in the area (GRDP) but only contributed 1.1% to the GRDP growth of Ho Chi Minh City.
Among the solutions related to the real estate market in 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office said that it is necessary to actively focus on removing legal obstacles for real estate projects, reducing housing and land prices. This is to help limit the waste of social resources and contribute to promoting the city's socio-economic development.
With its spread and influence on other economic sectors, the General Statistics Office believes that it is necessary to identify real estate activities as a driving force for economic growth.
