NDO - On the afternoon of December 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Project Management Board and Urban Railway One Member Limited Liability Company No. 1 (HURC1) held a press conference after the first official operation day of Metro Line No. 1 Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien.
According to statistics from the operating unit, on the first day of operation, Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) welcomed 150,000 passengers, nearly 6 times higher than the initial estimate of 27,000 passengers.

Mr. Le Minh Triet, Director of Urban Railway One Member Limited Liability Company No. 1 (HURC1) said that on the first day of operation (from 10:00 to 22:00), there were 177 Metro trains operating to serve about 150,000 passengers to experience. This number far exceeded (nearly 6 times) the initial expected number of passengers (27,000 passengers).

“150,000 passengers is a very large number, this is a positive signal, a sign of improvement for public transport in the near future”. On the second day of commercial operation of the Metro line, the operator of the line said that from 5am to 4pm, there were 124 trains running, serving about 14,000 passengers. Also according to the representative of the Urban Railway One Member Limited Liability Company No. 1, people started going to school and work by Metro today. Passengers have started using Metro to travel from the city center to the new Eastern Bus Station in Thu Duc and vice versa. This shows that Metro is gradually serving the new Eastern Bus Station, gradually solving the transportation needs of the city's people, contributing to solving traffic congestion.

A representative of the line operator said that according to the order plan and timetable provided by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, it is estimated that Metro Line 1 will welcome about 40,000 passengers/day. Therefore, the unit expects that after a short time, Metro will form new travel habits for people. Currently, for the utilities around the stations, the company has also cooperated with the Public Transport Management Center to connect vehicles, helping passengers travel most conveniently. As planned, during the New Year, the company will increase the frequency of operations of the Metro line; at the same time, it will coordinate with security forces to ensure security and order at the stations.
