Sputnik quoted the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's announcement stating that the Russian military continued to carry out large-scale airstrikes against Ukrainian military targets, including weapons production facilities and Kiev's decision-making centers on the morning of January 8.
The announcement also said Russia used Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and other precision weapons in the latest attack.
“On the morning of January 8, Russia continued to carry out a large-scale attack with high-precision air and sea-based weapons systems, including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system, against facilities of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

The operation included rocket, artillery and drone attacks on Ukrainian forces in 108 different areas, including an attack on a location believed to be the headquarters of Ukraine's 101st Territorial Defense Brigade.
The announcement by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry came after Ukrainian media reported airstrike warnings and explosions in Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Khmelnitsky, Krivoy and other cities and regions.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny confirmed that Russian attacks hit infrastructure, industrial and military facilities, but did not give details about the targets.
Since mid-December 2023, Russia has significantly increased attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, military bases, military production facilities and decision-making centers, which is considered Moscow's response to Kiev's attacks on the assets of the Black Sea Fleet.
The Ukrainian army continues to escalate by shelling the city of Belgorod inside Russian territory as well as the Donbass region.
Russia first began targeting Ukraine's energy, defense, command, and communications infrastructure in October 2022 after Ukraine's attack on the Crimean bridge.
