On July 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Moscow is ready to seek a balance of interests to resolve the current crisis in Ukraine, emphasizing the need to take into account new geostrategic realities on the Eurasian continent.

Foreign Minister S. Lavrov made the statement at the UN Security Council meeting on multilateral cooperation in the interests of creating a more just and sustainable world order. According to Mr. S. Lavrov, when agreeing on common guarantees and agreements, the parties will have to take into account new geostrategic realities on the Eurasian continent, where a truly equal and indivisible continental architecture of security is taking shape.

Mr. S.Lavrov stressed that Russia is ready to seek a balance of interests to resolve the current crisis in Ukraine. The Russian diplomat also reaffirmed that to end the conflict in Ukraine, Moscow needs to eliminate the threat from the West.

On the same day, The New York Times reported that the Ukrainian government plans to end the conflict with Russia through peace negotiations. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in order to resolve the conflict, the presence of Russian representatives at the upcoming second summit on Ukraine is necessary. According to Mr. Zelensky, preparations for this event will be completed before November.

According to Russia's RIA news agency on July 17, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that efforts are being made to organize the next round of the peace summit for Ukraine this year. For the conference to be successful, it is necessary to ensure that both Ukraine and Russia participate. Balázs Orbán, political advisor to the Hungarian Prime Minister, said that Prime Minister Viktor Orban's peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine has been put on the table for discussion by all European Union (EU) leaders.

Budapest will use its entire EU presidency to facilitate peace talks and consider political initiatives. Balázs noted that Hungary is the only country with new and concrete information about the parties to the conflict and the most important mediators. If Europe is serious about peace, it can create a plan that “has at least a chance of working.”

Meanwhile, Kiev has raised the possibility of inviting Russian representatives to the next peace conference. Ukraine said the next conference would discuss plans drawn up by working groups, which include dozens of countries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the summit would lay the foundation for a “fair and lasting” solution with Moscow.
