It is known that Thanh Lien is one of the communes that does a good job of caring for the elderly in Thanh Chuong district. The commune leaders and organizations pay special attention to specific and practical activities such as: Organizing longevity celebrations for even-aged people in early spring, organizing the celebration of "Vietnam Elderly Traditional Day June 6 " , " International Elderly Day October 1 " to review and deepen the pride in their contributions to the country, to the revolutionary cause of the nation, thereby promoting the role of the elderly in the new stage of the country as well as the gratitude of young people to the previous generations, encouraging the elderly to continue to promote traditions, experiences and spiritual values for the next generation. Mr. Phan Ba Ngoc, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee affirmed: For many consecutive years, the work of caring for the elderly in both material and spiritual life has always received special attention from local leaders. In addition to supporting the commune's annual budget, through the form of social mobilization to attract funding sources and facilities to create reasonable, practical and useful cultural and sports playgrounds for the elderly such as: Establishing sports clubs, volleyball, table tennis, badminton (the whole commune has 32 sports fields in 8 hamlets), chess, cycling, walking... Organizing the "Elderly Singing Festival" of the commune and many sports competitions attracting a large number of members of the Associations in the commune and communes in the Cat Ngan cluster to participate. In particular, organizing longevity celebrations for the elderly with even ages at the beginning of Spring, visiting when they are sick, in trouble, in difficulty, taking care of funerals, and paying condolences when they pass away are regular activities. Due to the large area of the commune, the number of elderly people increases every year, so now the concentrated longevity celebration is organized in the hamlets. The Party Committee, the People's Committee of the commune, the Fatherland Front, the organizations, and the Elderly Association of the commune assign cadres to attend and congratulate in the hamlets, considering this the responsibility of the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front, the organizations to coordinate and preside over the organization, not the sole responsibility of the Elderly Association.
Celebrating the longevity of the elderly is a beautiful traditional cultural feature of the nation, showing the respect and filial piety of children and grandchildren to their grandparents, parents. This is a practical activity to encourage the elderly to live happily, healthily, and usefully, and to be an example to educate their children and grandchildren to comply with the policies and laws of the Party and the State. Creating precious spiritual values, with practical meaning and profound humanity to promote the role of the "tall tree with great shade" of the elderly in the family and in society, is also a way to educate and teach children and grandchildren about the duty of living together with others, with society and the homeland.
