Heat wave returns to the North and Central regions next week

Cold air also appeared 3 times on April 24, April 29, and May 7. During this time, the North and Central regions experienced 2 large-scale heat waves. The first time from April 17 to 24, heat waves occurred widely in the Northwest region; from April 18 to 23, heat waves appeared in provinces from Nghe An to Phu Yen.

In the second wave, heat waves occurred widely in the North and Central regions from May 4 to 7, with many places recording the highest daily temperature values exceeding historical values for the same period. In the South, heat waves occurred widely and lasted for many days from April 20 to May 7.

From May 11 to 13, due to the influence of cold air compressing the low trough combined with wind convergence up to 5,000 m above sea level, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien - Hue will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally with moderate to heavy rain; the rain will tend to decrease in the following days.

It is forecasted that from May 16, the low pressure area in the west will develop and expand to the east. The temperature in the North and Central regions will increase again, with the possibility of heat waves from May 17 to 20.

From around the end of May, temperatures tend to be 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years; the number of hot days also increases in the North, North and Central Central regions and is higher than in 2022. In the South, the southwest monsoon tends to become more active, rain increases more evenly in the region, and heat gradually decreases in the South.

During this heat wave, temperatures in Hanoi range from 24 to 36 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperature forecast to be 36 degrees Celsius on May 17.

Due to the impact of the heat wave concentrated in the Northern and Central regions, beware of the risk of fire and explosion in residential and production areas due to the high demand for electricity and the high risk of forest fires. In addition, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail continue to appear nationwide, which can greatly affect production and people's activities.
