TPO - During the weekend, the hot weather in the Southern region will continue. In addition, next week, the salinity boundary of 4g/l will be about 50-55km from the Tien River mouth, and about 45-50km from the Hau River mouth.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, yesterday (February 29), heat continued to occur widely in the Southeast provinces with increasing heat intensity, and some places in the Western provinces were hot.

The highest temperature in the Eastern region ranges from 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places 37 degrees Celsius and above 37 degrees Celsius such as Long Khanh: 37.2 degrees Celsius, Dong Xoai and Bien Hoa: 37 degrees Celsius.

It is forecasted that today (March 1) and tomorrow, heat waves will continue to occur widely, with severe heat waves in some places in the Eastern provinces and expanding in the Western provinces.

The highest temperature in the East is from 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places above 37 degrees Celsius; in the West, some places are 35-36 degrees Celsius. The hot time during the day is from 12:00 to 16:00.

The salinity continues to penetrate about 5km deeper.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the water level on the Mekong River has changed little over the past week. The water flow through Kratie station is about 14.5% lower than the same period in 2023 and about 9.9% higher than the average of many years. The water level at Kompong Luong is about 0.17-0.39m lower than the same period last year and the average, and the volume of the Tonle Sap Lake is about 0.36 billion m3 lower than the average.

In addition, the tide in the downstream areas of the rivers in the Southwest region rose slowly last week, with peak tide levels occurring at the weekend and at low levels.

The highest salinity at most output stations mainly occurs at the weekend, except for Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang areas, where it appears mid-week at approximately the same level or higher than the same period last year and the average. The 4g/l salinity boundary is about 45-50km from the Tien River mouth; about 38-45km from the Hau River mouth.

It is forecasted that the tide in the lower reaches of the rivers in the Southwest will drop rapidly until mid-week, then rise again. The highest tide peak will appear at the weekend and will be at a low level.

The highest salinity at most stations next week is likely to appear at the end of the week, with some stations on the Tien River appearing at the beginning of the week and at levels approximately equal to or higher than the same period in 2023 and the average.

In addition, the 4g/l salinity boundary will continue to penetrate deeper (about 50-55km from the Tien River mouth, about 45-50km from the Hau River mouth).
