According to Mr. Khiem, 2025 could be among the hottest years ever recorded, with the average global temperature about 1.29 - 1.53 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial period.
In Vietnam, temperatures remain high but are unlikely to break the record set in 2024. It is forecasted that the East Sea may welcome 11-13 storms, of which 5-6 will directly affect the mainland, with the risk of strong storms of level 12 or higher still high.
According to the Vietnam Meteorological Forecasting Agency, predictions about the impacts of climate change are becoming a reality. The common roof of humanity is warming rapidly with alarming numbers; each of the last ten years has been the hottest year in the history of observations.

Ocean temperatures are breaking records, and every country is feeling the impact from extreme weather events like heat waves, floods, powerful storms and hurricanes.
According to a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), from 1970 to 2021, extreme weather events caused nearly 12,000 disasters, killing 2 million people and causing economic losses of up to 4.3 trillion USD.
However, nearly half of the world's countries still lack adequate early warning systems, leaving millions of people exposed to disaster risks without timely information to respond. This is also the main reason for the "Early Warning for All" strategy as well as the message of World Meteorological Day 2025 - "Working together for a comprehensive early warning system".
Vietnam is a country that is heavily affected by natural disasters, especially storms, floods and droughts. Therefore, hydrometeorological forecasting is the first line of defense in natural disaster prevention, a mission to protect people's lives and property.
In recent years, forecasting work has made significant progress. Vietnam has a national hydrometeorological monitoring network consisting of more than 217 surface meteorological stations, nearly 2,000 automatic rain gauges, 426 hydrological stations, 27 oceanographic meteorological stations, and 10 modern weather radar stations. This system helps monitor, supervise, forecast and promptly warn of dangerous weather phenomena such as storms, floods, droughts and saltwater intrusion.
