(Dan Tri) - For many poor workers in Hoi An city, Quang Nam, the days before Tet are the busiest time, they take advantage of the opportunity to earn a little extra income to prepare for a cozy Tet.
In the middle of a chilly night, under the drizzling weather in Hoi An at the end of the year, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (in Cam Pho ward, Hoi An city) still diligently pushes a wheelchair, taking his disabled wife to sell lottery tickets. For more than 30 years, Mr. Hung and his wife have stuck with this job together.
"We sell about 100 lottery tickets every day. During the last days of December, my husband and I try to sell early and come home a few hours later to have a little extra money for Tet shopping," Mr. Hung shared.

At the corner of Tran Hung Dao and Le Loi streets, Ms. Dang Hoa (in Thanh Ha ward) is also busy with her work to make a living. On her small stall are neatly arranged raincoats and umbrellas.
Taking advantage of the erratic rainy weather, she travels everywhere to sell raincoats and umbrellas to earn a little extra income for her family.
"During the day, I work at a breakfast shop near my house, and in the rainy afternoons, I sell my goods. Some days I sell a few dozen, some days no one buys, but I still have to try. Tet is coming, the house needs to be renovated, and the children and grandchildren need to buy a few more things," Ms. Hoa said.

Tet is a time for people to gather and reunite, and at this time, people's demand for consumption and shopping increases. This is also an opportunity for freelance workers like Mr. Hung, Ms. Hoa and many others to earn some extra money to buy candy and fruit for Tet.
Along the streets of Hoi An, the image of people carrying flowers, transporting ornamental plants or selling Tet decorations has become familiar.
The ornamental plant market is bustling this year thanks to favorable weather, beautiful plants and few pests. Thanks to that, transportation services also have more income, helping many freelancers have more money to buy things for their families to celebrate Tet.
According to locals, depending on the size of the bonsai and the distance traveled, each delivery trip will cost 50,000-500,000 VND/trip, and each day can earn up to a million VND.

Not only jobs such as wrapping cakes, transporting ornamental plants, selling incense burner sand or polishing bronze incense burners, but other service industries are also more bustling during this time. Motorbike taxi drivers, delivery people or cleaning staff also work overtime to earn more income.
Mr. Vo Van Dung, a freelance worker in Son Phong ward, shared: "As Tet approaches, I drive day and night to deliver goods. It's tiring, but thinking about my family having a more complete Tet, I try harder."
Despite the hardships, freelance workers still hope for a more prosperous and fulfilling new year. Lottery tickets, raincoats or encouraging smiles from passersby are not only a source of income but also a valuable sharing, giving strength to those in difficult circumstances to steadily overcome the old year and welcome a more fulfilling new spring.
