As a native of Vinh Tuong (Vinh Phuc), painter Quynh Thom (born in 1971) has devoted herself to art with a quiet yet persistent spirit, breathing life into each painting imbued with the soul of the countryside. The exhibition "Sac Que 3" is a testament to that relentless creative journey, where he recreates the rustic, simple beauty through the emotional language of painting.

In this exhibition, viewers have the opportunity to admire the direct paintings (accounting for 90% of the works) with bright, close and profound colors. In particular, there are about 6 large-sized paintings (1.26mx1.86m) painted by the artist in a state of emotional sublimation, without many elaborate layers of processing, helping to fully preserve the "spirit" of the moment. Images of village ponds, bamboo hedges, rice fields, roofs, roads... appear vividly, like pieces of memories reviving in the flow of time.

Painting to me is a special space of the spiritual world, where I can truly live with what I love, experience, cherish and hope for... It is not technique or theory, it is emotion that leads me on that journey.

Despite having worked in the field of graphic design for many years, artist Quynh Thom has always devoted his quiet moments to painting. In the past 5-6 years, he has returned to the path of painting, diligently painting to preserve the values that are gradually fading due to urbanization.

The public has the opportunity to enjoy paintings imbued with the homeland.

Not only does it recreate the beauty of the homeland, "Sac Que 3" also subtly reflects the changes of modern society, through the humanistic and narrative lens of the artist. He harmoniously combines traditional beauty and modern elements, from lines to composition, creating a new artistic voice, moving viewers both at home and abroad.

Many foreign visitors decided to buy his paintings right before the exhibition, just because they were attracted by the rustic beauty and pure emotions that the works brought. That further affirmed the strong influence of Vietnamese art, when expressed with a sincere heart.

Besides his passion for creation, artist Quynh Thom also spends a lot of time collecting paintings by previous artists as a way to preserve artistic values over the years. He cherishes each work for its humanity, the emotion of the stories and the beauty of the artist's soul hidden behind them.

As quietly as his career, the artist also does charity work without much fanfare or fanfare. Many times he has given part of his income from the paintings he sells to the needy, with the same simple spirit that he has lived and conveyed through each painting of his homeland. For him, art is inseparable from the compassion of a true artist's heart, living with passion and sharing with all his love.

A happy memory before the exhibition "Country Colors" this time was on the afternoon of April 11, when the painting "Country Pond" (size 80x120cm) was still being prepared to be transported from the studio to Hanoi, suddenly an art collector in Ho Chi Minh City proactively contacted the artist with the desire to own the work.

That moment, for artist Quynh Thom, contained a simple but profound joy because of the spreading power of art that had condensed so much passion into sweet fruit. "Country Pond" opened up a space filled with memories: the clear water surface, the old bamboo groves reflecting their shadows, a few duckweeds floating silently... all like whispers of time, of childhood and the countryside seasons quietly passing by in the mind.

This is not the first time that Quynh Thom has had a surprising "painting closure" situation right before her exhibition. She does not see the material value, but is happy because of the sympathy and common voice between the artist and the audience. They could be people far from home but still longing to return to their rustic, familiar memories, or they could be foreigners amazed by the beauty of Vietnam's identity.

In his artistic journey, artist Quynh Thom does not make a fuss but chooses a quiet path. He always paints as a way to preserve the soul of the countryside that is gradually fading in the modern world. And perhaps, because of that sincerity, his paintings always touch the hearts of viewers, whether they are in Hanoi, the South, or another country in the world.

When entering the exhibition space "Country Colors 3", many people stopped for a long time in front of each painting, not because of the sophistication in technique, but because of the rustic, intimate and quiet atmosphere of the scenes that seemed to only exist in memory.

Some people stood silently in front of a painting of a village pond, their eyes filled with tears. Some people smiled slightly when they saw the yellow color of the afternoon sun on the ripe rice fields, as if they saw the silhouettes of their parents who had once worked hard.

Many audiences have shared that Quynh Thom's paintings bring them back to their childhood, to the winding dirt roads, the curved bridges, the bowl of green tea at the alley entrance... Simple things that seem to have slept peacefully in their minds suddenly come back to life through each bright, clear color and each emotional brushstroke.

James Whitmore, a foreign visitor, emotionally shared: "I don't fully understand the story in each painting, but I feel the peace, the sincerity and the deep love that the artist has for his homeland, for Vietnam. Through aesthetics, emotions... the artist's works have deeply touched the hearts of art lovers."

For many viewers, Quynh Thom’s paintings are both to look at and to listen to. Listening to the sound of the wind blowing through the areca trees, the sound of buffaloes in the pond, the sound of one’s own heart when reminded of the core things in life: love, origin, peace.

In Quynh Thom’s paintings, the yellow color appears as a vivid and lasting memory. It could be the sunlight pouring down on the thatched roof in the afternoon of the countryside, the yellow color of new straw, ripe rice, the color of memories of peaceful years flowing slowly through each brushstroke.

Exhibition

A work painted by the artist on April 5.

The yellow color in his paintings is not bright and dazzling, but always has a hint of dryness and warmth like the color of the sunlight falling on the shoulders of mothers carrying burdens in the old afternoon. That color evokes the warmth of the land, the affection of the harvest season and the quiet, enduring spirit of the people of the countryside.

Exhibition

90% of the works in the exhibition were drawn directly by the artist.

Occasionally, the yellow color is also dotted with a faint purple of the xoan flower cluster - a gentle purple color, dreamy like the mist of early season. The purple color in Quynh Thom's paintings is not much, but every time it appears, it is like a low note, touching a gentle memory.

Exhibition

The countryside pond is a consistent theme, deeply imprinted in Quynh Thom's works.

That basic background is always embraced by the green of trees, lakes, and clear sky. The gentle background supports emotions, creating a light harmony between the landscape and the inner self. The green of Quynh Thom is the color of nature, of hope, of endless life, and of wordless love for the homeland.

Exhibition

The artist introduces his work.

In each painting, those colors blend together like a symphony imbued with the soul of the countryside, where viewers not only "see" but also "feel", not only look but also feel like they are returning to their own memories.

The exhibition "Colors of the Countryside 3" will last from April 14 to April 24, 2025. For those who love art and their homeland, this is a precious opportunity to listen to the melodies of memories, where each painting is a story of love, nostalgia and belief in the eternal values of Vietnamese culture.
