Muong Lat strives to improve population quality

To improve the quality of the population, the Steering Committee of the Health - Population Target Program of Muong Lat district has developed an action plan, proposed solutions to improve the quality of the population; enhanced innovation in content and methods to bring about efficiency in the implementation of programs and projects. The District Health Center advises the Party Committee and the government to closely follow the plans and contents of programs and projects; diversify forms of propaganda, suitable for each target group to create a strong change in people's awareness.

Along with promoting propaganda to change behavior, programs and projects to improve population quality have been effectively implemented, creating opportunities for people to access policies of the Party and State. Implementing the Project to Control Gender Imbalance at Birth, the district organized a thematic talk on the consequences of gender imbalance at birth on the sustainable development of families and society in 3 communes of Trung Ly, Tam Chung and Nhi Son, from which localities have had positive changes in behavior related to gender imbalance at birth.

With the Project to expand screening, diagnosis and treatment of some prenatal and neonatal diseases, the pre-marital reproductive health club has been maintained in 8 communes and towns; pre-marital health consultation and examination have been organized for 120 young people of marriageable age.

The program to improve the quality of the population of ethnic minorities in the community, implemented in 8 communes and towns, has organized 16 adolescent and youth reproductive health club activities for 400 male and female youth members in the district. Through the activities, the aim is to provide knowledge about pre-marital reproductive health, safe contraception, infertility prevention and treatment, safe motherhood, parental responsibility, raising healthy children, teaching good children, risks of giving birth to children with disabilities, risks of infertility when marrying early and incestuously... In the first 3 months of 2025, Muong Lat District Medical Center coordinated with relevant agencies to continue to promote integrated propaganda on the prevention of mushroom food poisoning; integrate VNeID installation, integrate health insurance cards for students with propaganda on early marriage, incestuous marriage...

The above actions have contributed significantly to reducing the birth rate in Muong Lat district. In 2024, the birth rate will decrease by 0.1‰; the natural population growth rate will be 12.6‰; the sex ratio at birth will be 111.8 boys/100 girls; the rate of pregnant mothers screened before birth will be 44%; the rate of newborns screened at birth will be 5.4%; the rate of male and female couples receiving premarital counseling and health check-ups will be 52.3%; the rate of elderly people receiving periodic health check-ups once a year will be 57.3%...

Deputy Director of Muong Lat District Health Center Le Quoc Huan said: To gradually improve the quality of the population, the center continues to thoroughly grasp and concretize the Party's guidelines, policies, laws of the State and the sector's guiding documents on the work of caring for and protecting people's health in accordance with the practical conditions of each locality and unit; communicate and integrate health goals and tasks into plans, programs and projects for socio-economic development in the locality; coordinate with departments, branches, unions and between units in the health sector, at the same time strengthen cooperation and promote the role of information and communication agencies in the area; mobilize the proactive and active participation of socio-political organizations, communities and people to create high consensus and unity in organizing and implementing health education and communication activities. Implement national target programs on population and health in 2024 and Project 7 on organizing the implementation of Project 7, taking care of people's health, improving the physical condition and stature of ethnic minorities, preventing child malnutrition under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2025.
