Muong Than field, Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province is known as one of the four largest rice fields in the Northwest, "Nhat Thanh, Nhi Lo, Tam Than, Tu Tac".
Golden rice fields, heavy with grain, stretch out in Than Uyen.
Muong Than is not a place with high terraced fields, but thanks to the gentle terrain, people here can grow two rice crops a year. At this time, farmers are busy harvesting the winter-spring rice crop. This year's rice crop is good, with higher yields than last year despite having to cope with the recent drought. Being present at the rice fields of En Luong village in the morning, looking at the golden rice fields, heavy with grain, spread out among the harvested fields in the beautiful early morning sun. It is the harvest season, so the working atmosphere in the fields is always bustling, with the sound of combine harvesters threshing to keep up with the season. Farmers are busy, in groups, harvesting rice, collecting rice... On the main road of the field, threshing machines are lined up to thresh rice. Mr. Lo Van Tuy (En Luong village, Muong Than commune) happily said that this year's rice crop is better than last year, with firm grains. The yield is about 6-7 tons/ha. Taking advantage of the rainy weather, people are harvesting rice in time for the season. According to Ms. La Thi Tuyet (Muong village, Muong Than commune), this winter-spring crop, her family planted two sao of Te Dau rice. In order to have a bumper crop, during the drought in April, her family had to work very hard to take advantage of irrigation water sources to ensure rice growth and development. In the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop, Muong Than commune planted 423 hectares of rice varieties: Seng cu, nep, Dai Duong, Bac huong, Bac thom, Ha Phat, Te Dau; of which, there are 205 hectares of commercial rice. Up to this point, people have harvested more than 125 hectares. The remaining rice will be harvested from now until early June. Evaluating this year's rice crop, Vice Chairman of Muong Than Commune People's Committee Dam Vu Anh said that despite the prolonged drought, the locality has implemented many measures to prevent drought. The commune's professional staff regularly go to the villages to propagate and mobilize people to proactively reserve water sources from ponds, streams, and lakes, then use pumps to pump water to drought-affected fields; when the rice is in a prolonged drought, households coordinate together to buy ropes and use water pumps to irrigate effectively and economically to protect the rice. Thanks to that, this year's rice is beautiful, with a yield of 6-7 tons/ha. Exceeding the target set by the Resolution of the District and Commune People's Councils. In this year's Winter-Spring crop, the entire Than Uyen district planted more than 2,044 hectares of rice. The rice variety structure includes: Seng cu, J02, Vass 16, Dai thom, Bac huong 9, Bac thom so 7, Nep 86, Nep 97, Nep 98, Viet lai 20, Nhi uu 838, Nghi huong... According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Than Uyen district, up to this point, many localities of the district such as Muong Cang, Ta Gia, Khoen On... are also busy harvesting spring rice. Of the more than 2,044 hectares of winter-spring rice this year, about 1/4 of the area has been harvested, with output and productivity reaching and exceeding the set plan.
