On the afternoon of June 12, the Department of Health of Ca Mau province announced that the locality had just recorded another case of methanol poisoning, causing 1 death and 3 people to be hospitalized.
All four people with alcohol poisoning reside in Tan Dien B Hamlet, Thanh Tung Commune, Dam Doi District. Currently, Ca Mau General Hospital is actively monitoring, caring for, and treating the patients with alcohol poisoning, including one case in critical condition.
It is known that during a drinking party at home, after almost running out of alcohol, these 4 people used a bottle of hand sanitizer mixed with alcohol to drink. The next day, all had headaches, fatigue, and vomiting but did not go to the doctor. When 1 person became tired and died at home, the family took the remaining 3 to Ca Mau General Hospital for treatment. Due to late hospitalization, these cases all had dangerous complications, 1 case had a poor prognosis, all 3 patients were determined to have methanol poisoning.
In response to this incident, the Ca Mau Health Department has advised people not to use alcohol mixed with industrial alcohol, or use alcohol soaked with plants, leaves and animals of unknown origin and toxicity. After using alcohol, if there are any unusual signs, people should quickly go to a medical facility for timely advice and treatment.
