Opening direction to promote sea tourism

Việt NamViệt Nam26/09/2024

Quang Tri province has a long and beautiful coastline, which is a good condition for developing sea tourism. However, in reality, the province's sea tourism is in its potential form; there is a lack of good services leading to short stays for tourists; revenue from sea tourism is not much... To develop sea tourism well in Quang Tri province, there needs to be appropriate, long-term, and sustainable solutions.

Along with great potential for seafood and minerals, along the coast of Quang Tri province there are many beautiful beaches, favorable for developing sea tourism. In recent times, the province has invested in infrastructure at many sea tourism destinations to create momentum for the development of this area. Particularly in Gio Linh district, the Project on developing tourism infrastructure to support comprehensive growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion, Quang Tri Sub-project is completing the final phase, contributing to the completion of tourism infrastructure at Trung Giang, Gio Hai, and Cua Viet beaches.

Currently, the transport infrastructure system serving economic development and promoting coastal tourism has been invested in quite synchronously, coastal accommodation facilities in Cua Tung and Cua Viet towns have been gradually invested in and built. Especially in Gio Hai commune and Cua Viet town, Gio Linh district, large-scale tourist areas are being completed. Up to now, the coastal area of Quang Tri province has more than 50 large and small accommodation facilities, meeting a large number of rooms for tourists. With efforts to invest in infrastructure and entertainment services, Quang Tri coastal tourism has attracted a large number of tourists to visit and relax every year. However, according to assessments, this number of tourists is still small compared to the potential and available advantages.

Director of the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center Nguyen Duc Tan said that although Quang Tri has great potential, sea tourism has not really developed and still has many limitations. Tourism services are generally poor; modern accommodation facilities are still few, sea tourism products are not diverse; infrastructure at many beaches is still lacking. Although localities and units have made many efforts and innovations, sea and island tourism products are still fragmented. Tourism activities have only stopped at the coast, there is no specialized tourism port qualified to receive large international cruise ships.

Tourism and marine services are identified as marine economic sectors as set out in Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Central Executive Committee dated December 22, 2018 on “Vietnam’s sustainable marine economic development strategy to 2030, vision to 2045”. At the same time, marine tourism has been identified as one of the four key product lines with advantages of Vietnam’s tourism. This has been affirmed in Decision No. 147/QD-TTg dated January 22, 2020 of the Prime Minister approving the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tan, the Party and the State have had many policies to promote the development of marine tourism, considering this an effective direction, contributing to creating jobs, increasing income for people and stimulating socio-economic development of coastal localities. When policies and guidelines are in place, coastal localities need to be more daring in changing their approach; proactively exploiting tourists instead of passively waiting for visitors to come as they are now.

Therefore, in order for sea tourism to develop commensurate with its potential and create its own brand, the province needs to focus on urging coastal tourism projects to accelerate investment progress, contributing to improving sea tourism products and services. There needs to be effective investment and management of infrastructure, services and human resources for tourism. Localities need to invest, upgrade, and pay attention to technical conditions, hygiene, safety, and better serve tourists.

Pay special attention to investing in synchronous traffic infrastructure, connecting coastal cities to enhance access to destinations from the sea. Accelerate the construction of Quang Tri Airport to shorten the time for tourists to Quang Tri, return to sea tourism and connect to Con Co island tourism. Develop mechanisms and upgrade tourism services on Con Co island. Travel businesses need to have measures to stimulate demand and create new and diverse tourism products for the sea tourist segment with special tour programs.

Continue to promote tourism to Quang Tri beach destination to tourists from Laos and the Northeast of Thailand. Along with that, improve tourism service conditions, cuisine, and service culture, creating attractiveness for domestic and foreign tourists. Focus on communication work for beach tourism to be increasingly rich on many information channels so that beach tourism products can reach many tourist segments.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tan, in the long term, it is necessary to invest in developing attractive and unique types of sea tourism. That is, it is possible to research and build in Cua Viet town a marine cultural museum to display valuable documents and images about the process of building and protecting the sea and islands of our ancestors through the ages, especially the glorious feats of our army and people in the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism that took place in the Quang Tri sea and island area, associated with preserving and honoring the marine cultural ecosystem that Quang Tri fishermen have created and nurtured over many generations. This will be the highlight of the sea and island tourism tour, a place to educate today's young generation about the responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland; as well as attract many tourists because of the uniqueness and difference of the destination.
